Battle Island is located within Oldtown. The island sits in the area where the Honeywine widens and empties into Whispering Sound. The Hightower once sat atop it, but it is now a smoking ruin.

Rhaegar Targaryen along with a number of heavily armed loyal guards, as well as twenty-five heavily bound prisoners cross the Honeywine to Battle Island. Only the base of the Hightower remains. Rhaegar can see parts of the Hightower jutting out of the river in the direction that it had collapsed, as well as the remains of the market beyond.

Rhaegar and his detail herded the prisoners along to the nearest spot along the shoreline where Rhaegar had been told Vermax's remains had fallen into. Rhaegar hardly dared to look for any vestige of his beloved dragon, but he steeled himself to look for anything that might have remained. If so, he would ensure that any remains were decently disposed of.

The 25 Poor Fellows (because scant few Warriors Sons had elected to be taken alive) marched along the rocky outcroppings of Battle Island with blank stares in captivity, herded by the veterans under Rhaegar's command.
There was scant left of Vermax. The dragon had been small to begin with, blown into innumerable bits that swarms of fish now feasted on. The torso that had landed upon the rocks of Battle Island had splattered, leaving no piece recognizable from the once proud beast.

Rhaegar had a post embedded into the ground, next to the shore, nearest to where he thought Vermax had plunged into the sea. One by one, all but one of the Poor Fellows was tied securely to the post, facing the sea. Only when each was firmly secured, Rhaegar stepped up to them and looked them in the eyes coldly, uttering two words each time, "Valar morghulis", before slitting their throats. Each body was then released, weighed down with rocks from the rubble of the Hightower and then pushed into the sea, where it sank to join Vermax at the bottom of the Whispering Sound.
The last of the Poor Fellows was finally lashed to the post and instead of having his throat cut, Rhaegar ordered that brushwood and other flammable material be piled around his feet and legs. Finally the grief-stricken lord lit the pile with a torch and stepped back watching coldly as the last of the Poor Fellows writhed in agony as the flames rose higher around him.

When the remaining Poor Fellow was little more than a blackened skeleton, Rhaegar had what was left of the burnt post levered out of the ground. That and the remains were unceremoniously dumped into the sea, to join Vermax and the Poor Fellows that had gone before. Rhaegar said a short prayer for his dead dragon and boarded the boats to take him and his guard back to the mainland.
