"Calm, Arenya," Aegon said slowly, taking it all in. "We have seized Oldtown. Both Ser Hector and the High Septon died by my hand. But we did not do so without loss. Valarr and four dragons lie dead. More are injured. If he still has the strength you say he does, it may make sense to treat with Lord Redwyne. He must know that with Oldtown fallen, his days are numbered unless he signs a peace."

"You defeated Them!!! Thank the Gods!!!" There was look of relief on her face until he mentioned the deaths. She slowly dropped her head,"Damnit.... We have all paid a high cost for this, haven't we?" Arenya sat in her seat again,"I saw Daenya as she left, who else among you is injured?"
Sipping the Arbor wine,"I must tell you that we also had the help of the Ironborn which proved a mistake",she scoffed,"They tucked tail and ran as soon as it seems that Redwyne was gaining ground." Looking at her nephew, as he now spoke of a deal. It would seem plausible with Dragonbane and the Septon dead."Maybe... You may have some merit in that notion now. When your mother mentioned it I felt it was an act of lunacy before I came here to hear your news."

"Most of the family was wounded," Aegon responded, though Arenya could see that he looked uninjured. "Maekar lost a hand and an eye. The rest should heal, given time, though Aemon is in a bad way given the loss of his dragon."
Aegon poured himself a glass of wine and drank. "I have no love for Redwyne, but he is a lord -- not a fanatic. He survives on trade, and he must know that his vineyards and ships will burn eventually if he does not concede. If he proves unreasonable, we shall go to war again, and we will win. But we should hear the man out first, for the sake of preventing future losses amongst our dragons if nothing else."

She nodded, taking another drink. "Do as you would see fit Aegon. I know you want peace, whatever transpires if you need me, I shall be there." Arenya then stood,"Please excuse me nephew, I do need to speak to Lady Velaryon about her father."
She sighed deeply,"And to see my baby brother. Azuria was Tanis' mother after all. I guess that is what she felt when we arrived here. I will have words with him, but I will stay for a while for whatever you need.""

Aegon nodded. "We do not have enough healthy dragons to spare you as a messenger to the King. Remain for a time. It may be that I will have a task for you. But that is all for now," Aegon said. "Try to let Dany down gently. She fought very bravely in the battle."

"I understand. As I said use me as you see fit", she smiled lightly with a nod, knowing that she had the sublety of a warhammer with such things. "I will do my best with the girl."
"Get some rest Aegon, we will talk later."Arenya then left him with a small smile.

Before Arenya arrived, Rhaena Targaryen approached the command tent to speak with her brother about the citadel, and report what had happened.

The guards let her in. Aegon is looking over a report of the injured and wounded, which he sets down when Rhaena enters. "Rhaena," He nods to his sister. "Have you taken the Citadel?"

"I have, not that it needed much taking," she informed him, "The Archmaesters are all dead." she said to him bluntly, "I have had their heads cut off and put on spikes."

Aegon frowned. "How did they die?" he asked.

"Killed themselves," she replied, feeling the pain in her leg now adrenaline was wearing off, "I imagine they did not trust in the mercy of our family. They were wise after all. Or not, depending on how you look at it." She said almost conversationally, thinking all Aegon ever did was frown. Frown and give orders. "Seeing as they were already dead, I thought it better to make traitors of them in full than martyrs, no one necessarily need know we did not have them killed."

Aegon drummed his fingers on his small camp table. The death of all the Archmaesters was not what he had been hoping to hear, though he did not blame Rhaena for it. "What of the lesser maesters?" Aegon asked. "Have they been rounded up?"

"The citadel is in chaos, it will not be easy to round anyone up until that dies down, but I imagine that they will not go far in the meantime, the citadel will be the safest place for themm comparatively" She told him, "I managed to send a white raven to King's Landing though, informing them of the victory, and the death of the dragonbane. I left out the death of the High Septon, in case... events happened and his life could not be taken."

"It is our job to restore peace to that chaos," Aegon stated. He eyed Rhaena's wound. "You should have a maester look at that. I can have one of the other commanders secure the lesser maesters while you heal."
He paused for a long moment, and for a time it seemed he would not address what Rhaena had said about the High Septon. He looked at one of his battle reports, then said with an unconvincing feigned casualness, "The High Septon is dead. I killed him myself."

"That must have been hard for you, considering your beliefs," she commented, for once no judgement about his faith in the seven entering her voice.

"The man started the bloodiest war in the history of this continent," Aegon responded firmly, "He deserved to die." He did not mention that the old man had been harmless, addled out of his wits.

"I am glad you think so, it still looks as if it troubles you." She said, and then her face softened a bit, "You are my commander, but you are also my brother, and though we do not see eye to eye, Aegon, you can talk to me. I am one of the few people you can talk to." she went on, the softness making her face look all the prettier, "I am not saying you must, but I just want you to know you can,"

"We are so different, Rhaena. Sometimes I find it hard to know your mind," Aegon admitted slowly. "I had misgivings about killing the High Septon. I was taught that a knight should protect the infirm and helpless, not slay them. But it does not matter. I did my duty. And I did not lie when I said the man earned his death through his own actions."

She nodded through the part of them being different, "Duty is all we can do, you, me, Daenya. Duty is all we have to look forward to." She said, and gave a sad smile, "I am glad you killed him, but I am sad it troubles you, you did the right thing, so it will go from your mind as soon as you let it."

"Letting it go sounds so simple when you say it like that," Aegon laughed ruefully. "But maybe it is better to remember." He trailed off without elaborating.

"It is simple, why remember something that causes you pain, you can't change it, let it go," she said, thinking it might be his faith making him hold on, and not really understanding,
"You will do what you will, anyway, I just hope it doesn't plague you," She went on, shaking her head, "Has the Starry Sept been destroyed?"

"Looted. Not yet destroyed," Aegon answered. "I am not sure how to go about the task, to be honest. No dragon save Balerion or Vhagar has fire hot enough to melt granite, and we have already used up our wildfire stores."

"What about the faiths... explosives?" she suggested, "if they can destroy dragon scales... or just breaking it down, it was built, it can come down. If you like, I could put my energy into finding a way."

"We have discovered precious little of the stuff," Aegon replied. "And with the Archmaesters dead, we should save what remains of their explosives until our own men can understand how it works. If you can devise another way, feel free to put your mind to it."

"It shall be a pleasant distraction while we wait to leave," she said, as if they were talking on him suggesting she embroider a pillow rather than destroy a supposedly sacred monument, "well that is all I had to convey to you, I am sure you are busy,"
