The young man didn't seem to notice her lapsed manners. He just grinned at her. "Lewyn Beesbury, Lord of Honeyholt. I don't know you, my lady, I'm sorry." "A pleasure, My Lord," Elsey said, with a small bow, glad that she didn't presume to call him Ser at first. Her next words gave her some trepidation as she spoke them, as they sometimes gave rise to poor reactions; "I am Lady Elseyris Targaryen."

"Oh." His tone indicated surprise but he bowed politely, despite the chicken drumstick in his hand. "Well met, my lady. I knew that some of the ladies of the royal house were present, of course. But I don't believe we have met before."

"Indeed, I do not think so either. Well met, My Lord. I trust you fared well in the battle?" "Well enough. I survived," he said. "And so two thirds of my men. That's the best I could hope for, I believe. Was it your first battle too?"

That's the best I could hope for, I believe. Was it your first battle too?" "Yes," Elsey replied, with a sudden pensive look. "I fear I did not fare so well as yourself though, My Lord," she said, glancing briefly at her sling. "The field maesters have seen to the injuries well enough, but someone with a two-handed weapon is left rather useless when they may only use one half of an arm." She gave a small smile, trying to make some light of the situation. "It occurs to me that I do not know where Honeyholt is. Is it far from here?"

"Not at all. We were sworn to the Hightowers, once. I on't know who we are sworn to now. Maybe directly to the crown," he mused. "I'm sorry about your arm. I'm sure it will heal well. What kind of weapon do you favour? You are too small to wield a greatsword."

Cracked some ribs being thrown from my mount. All good fun," she said, with a slight playfulness. "It is mainly milk of the poppy and boredom keeping me going," she joked. In truth, the nightmares were the main reason she was trying to stay awake. "I use a flail. I was given my free choice of weaponry when I was around 9, and that was the one that spoke to me. I fear I have not the grace to wield a blade, nor the calm, precise patience for archery, though the world also has need of it's blunt instruments."

"The histories will tell of the glory of the King's victory, and none who read them can but know that such a victory can only come through noble sacrifice. Perhaps not by name, but they will be remembered," Maekar replied confidently. It was one of the few things in life of which he was absolutely sure, that a glorious death in battle was its own reward and by doing so one's life would still carry meaning long after it had ended. "But there is no glory in death, and what happened outside these walls... that was not a noble sacrifice..." Dany stated, her mind drifting back to that day. "Which must mean that all my favourite books are lies..." She had only just made that realisation and found it morbid. "Lies written by the victors."

"So it does, but my lady is too pretty to be called such," he replied. "All men know that the women of House Targaryen often carry weapons but I have never heard of a lady wielding a flail. You said you fell from your mount. Did you speak of a horse or a dragon?"

"Which must mean that all my favourite books are lies..." She had only just made that realisation and found it morbid. "Lies written by the victors." "That you think so makes clear the reason little girls are not often invited to war," Maekar said sternly. "You dishonor all those who have fallen by such words. What did you expect battle to be, sunshine and flowers? Men die in agony and terror amid the blood and shit, yet in doing so they have given their lives to something greater than themselves and there is nobility in such a sacrifice regardless what you think. Is there anything you require of me, your grace, or may I return to my duties?" he asked.

"No," Daenya said, looking upon Maekar with an expressionless face. "I don't think the two of us are like to see eye to eye."
She shrugged slightly and wiped her eyes. "Until then, brother," She said softly, before turning away and walking off.

OOC = if it's of any interest, Daenya got a tails rolled as she was walking away because I was just slightly too slow for you

When the order was given that the army was allowed to return to the city, Daenya was one of the first to leave, flying Vandaras back to the capital.

I suppose I was always one who wished to be different, so perhaps that affected my choice of weapon. It was my dragon I was thrown from, when he was killed by the Dragonbane." She had been deliberately vague when she mentioned her mount before, lest she show upset, but now, when she spoke more specifically, she was surprised to find that, although the spike of sorrow still twisted in her heart, no tears came, no change in her voice, just a flat numbness. Perhaps it was the milk of the poppy.

"I know it's not the same. So many lives were lost. I dread having to tell my people that their sons and brothers and husbands died in the battle."

Similarly to the youngest princess, Daenerys flew back to the capital on Mith, keeping low so as not to exert his healing wing overly much.

He died in bravery, as I am certain your horse did," Elseyris said, patting him on the shoulder briefly, but reassuringly; "It will be difficult to be the bearer of such sad tidings, true, but perhaps the valour of their sacrifice will be some solace to their families. They will live on as heroes in our histories." She looked sympathetically into his face; "It must be hard, to have become Lord of your house so young."

I was raised to be heir, truly. I don't mind it, except that I had to order men to their deaths. I plan to learn all their names and have them carved into a plaque of wood in the village square." He smiled. "Their families won't be able to read them, but I will, and my descendents will know their names." He stopped, tried to smile. "Would you like some wine?"

"Yes please, I would love some," Elsey replied. "Your plan to commemorate the dead is noble and beautiful. I'm sure it will be a fitting tribute. You are clearly a good, honourable man to think so much of those you command. If only all leaders were so."

I'm just a lad from a minor noble house who had the misfortune to lose both father and grandsire at a tender age. I know my people will suffer in their grief, as I already have."

"I'll go home. I just wanted to give my men a day or two to rest. We have only a small guard and most are peasants who want to go home to their farms. They were not made for war. I expect the new lord of Oldtown will call me to do fealty soon enough."

"Just my family. My mother and sister and brother. Honeyholt is...nice." He smiled. "I don't know how to explain it. It;s just home. I doubt it would impress a Targaryen used to the capital."
