The seat of House Hightower, the Hightower is the tallest structure in Westeros. It sits upon Battle Island, a small island jutting from the sea where the Honeywine meets the Whispering Sound.

Aegon has no intention of approaching the lethally armed tower on his dragon. Instead, he orders his men to seize every ship and boat in the harbor, and use them to make their way to Battle Island.

The commandeered ships make it about halfway across the Whispering Sound from the harbor to Battle Island, before a deafening explosions rocks the base of the Hightower. It appeared Ser Hector had taken precautions should the city fall, not intending to give up one of the Nine Wonders of the World Made by Man lightly. Barrels of Mother's Tears, positioned at the foundations of the 800 foot tower, ignited in a tumultuous explosion that knocked many men on the first wave of ship on their backs. Stones ran from the sky with the wrath of the Seven, sinking ships and caving in the skulls of men. The tower began to teeter to one side, the Hightower's shadow falling over the guild houses as it toppled over, crushing the profitable market district with a thunderous crash.

Aegon watched grimly as the Hightower fell. He was surprised, though he should not have been. The tallest structure in all of Westeros fell with a thunderous crash, and Aegon calmed Glutton with a hand on his thick neck. There was little that Aegon could do other than command the remaining boats out into the sound to rescue those whose ships had been crushed by falling masonry.

Rhaegar Targaryen had left the Starry Sept some time ago after it had fallen and had marched his heavy infantry deep into the city towards the Hightower. His men had settled on the shores, looking across to Battle Island to await further orders. It had been the light infantry that had boarded the ships first on the way to Battle Island.
As his men began to board the remaining ships to make their away across the water to assault the island, Rhaegar watched with some awe as the Hightower toppled and then crashed on what looked like a market area.

Aegon looked over at Rhaegar. "He was a bitter man," Aegon said. It was less because he was particularly close to Rhaegar, and more because he needed someone to talk to. "To doom his people because of his own failure." Aegon's fist clenched and unclenched. "You fought bravely, Rhaegar. There is no taint of treachery in your blood. If there is something you desire, I will support you in it when we return to the capital."

Rhaegar saluted his cousin without commenting on Hector. It was not his place to do so. "Thank you, cousin. I followed your orders as best I could."
He paused in thought for a moment.
"If it would please you, cousin, I have two requests. I desire twenty five prisoners from the Warrior Sons. I would also see my mother released from her captivity to return to her father's seat of Yronwood, if she should so desire. My mother has no blood-claim to the Iron Throne. Your father has myself and my sisters as hostages in payment for my father's folly."

"I will petition my father on behalf of your mother," Aegon pledged. "Why the prisoners?"

Rhaegar nodded in assent at Aegon's promise about his mother. In truth he knew the Crown Prince could do no more.
"One for every year of Vermax's life." he said in answer to Aegon's question. "To do with as I will."

In truth, more than twenty-five Warrior's Sons would need to be executed this day. Aegon nodded. "You have them."

Rhaegar nodded in quiet acknowledgment of Aegon's assent to his request. "You have further orders, cousin? The city appears to have fallen."

"The battle is over," Aegon said, "But the people of Oldtown shall not laud us as saviors. See that we have the walls and all fortified positions secured."

Rhaegar saluted once again. "It shall be done, my lord. I shall have the heavy infantry garrison the gatehouses and the other lighter infantry will man the walls."
