"We would be pleased to have your company, nuncle," Maekar replied. "The Poor Fellows will not know what hit them."
"Baelon, I imagine your lady wife wishes to find something inside, and I am late for Princess Daenya's name-day celebration, to which I am sure you are all also invited," he said.

Baelon shrugged. "It's the least I can do. Always figured I would go back to pirating after the war, and this is close enough. But yes, you're right, though she's not my wife yet, and I did not realize it was Daenya's name day. Though now that you mention it, I think I may happen to have a gift for her."

"Princess Daenya's name day celebration...?" Vira looked at the two men questioningly.

"The King's youngest daughter," Maekar replied with a small laugh, "she is four-and-ten today. There is a rather extravagant party beginning in the Red Keep as we speak."

"She's only a touch mad." Baelon added, giving a smirk to Arwyn and Vira.

"Well, we cannot keep you from your sister's side," Vira said, with a twinkle in her eye. "Though if I'm to be presented at court properly today for this celebration, I had better bring something that the Princess will like. One moment." Smiling at the two men, she disappeared inside the shop, and returned moments later with a wrapped parcel.
"I'm ready to leave when you are, Maekar," she said.

Maekar nodded farewell to Baelon and Lady Cuy, who disappeared inside the shop, and offered Vira his arm to continue to the keep.

Baelon opened the door for Arwyn.
"You see? My family's not so bad. Granted, those are some of the bastards, and we're a bit less uptight." He chose not to mention the fact that she'd been silent for the entire conversation.

Arwyn stepped inside with a grateful nod. "My love, you must think me horribly rude. I'm so sorry," she cried. "i just...I am not used to meeting new people. We received so few visitors at home. And yet even I have heard of the Inquisitors. Mother used to tell Lysa that the Inquistors would get her if she refused to eat her vegetables, or to go to bed on time. But I was old enough to know they were more than a tale to frighten naughty children. And the lady...she is very beautiful. If all the ladies are like that I shall be quite outshone."

"Pretty though she may be, Vira's no lady, no more than I'm a lord. Just my father's get off some commoner. The fact that she's a dragonrider improves her status considerably, granted." He looked around the shop. "Now, can we get some service?"

Mistress Bella bowed, looking them over with much curiosity. "I am here, ser and my lady. What can I do for you?"
Arwyn looked at Baelon. "I don't want a gown as immodest as your half sister was buying. Although...maybe...maybe just one, if it please you? Please, help me choose. I have never had so much choice before!"
She fingered a few of the dresses with lingering touches and little sighs. "I really like this one, with the silk and the lace overlay."

"It's quite pretty. And it would very much please me. But I'm afraid I don't have much of an eye for fashion. Try a few on, and I'll tell you how much it makes me want to rip it off of you." Baelon told Arwyn. He then turned to the proprietor. "Mistress, could you assist Lady Cuy, please? As she says, nothing too immodest."

"Of course," said Bella. "Shall I fetch you a cup of wine, ser? And my lady too?"
Arwyn nodded. "Yes, please. Baelon, I hope you won't be so dreadfully bored. I suppose...I suppose you could go visit an alehouse for an hour."
Bella started to say that there was a brothel close by but stopped when she realised that it would be impolite to say that in front of Arwyn.

"That sounds quite nice. I think I know just the place. I'll be back in no time at all."
Baelon turned and exited the shop, tossing a coin to the carriage driver and making sure he'll wait. He then headed for the whorehouse.

Arwyn tried on a lot of gowns. With the shop catering mostly to whores, most of the gowns were too low cut for her taste so some of the ones she chose would have to be altered an collected later, but she did pick a couple with lower necklines, in hopes of pleasing Baelon, so at least she'd have some clothes to wear at court. She also commissioned a few dresses for her sisters so they wouldn't have to appear at formal events in their old and much altered dresses.
The hour seemed to pass in no time at all and she was sipping her second glass of wine and innocently talking to Bella of marriage and her idea for another gown that would have to be made from scratch, as she wondered whether Baelon would be on time.

Baelon was a few minutes late, and somewhat more disheveled than when he left, having had a few cups of wine at least.
"Find something sufficient, then?" He asked as he came through the door. "Spared no expense, I hope."

"Not at all. I want to look pretty for you when we're at court. I hope you don't mind but my sisters needed dresses too. Megga grows so fast she'd look half a beggar otherwise." Arwyn smiled. "Did you enjoy the alehouse?"

"Ah, yes. They have a blond...ale that is simply heavenly. But let's be going. We have a name day party to crash, and I still need that bath and a change of clothes." He turned to Bella. "Send the bill to the Red Keep. It will be taken care of."

"It will be done," Bella promised.
Arwyn smiled at Baelon, not having noticed his slip up. "I'm pleased you enjoyed your ale. Let's go."

Vira and Daenya arrived at the dress shop in a sedan chair, a Valyrian tradition that the Targaryens had maintained, and alighted lightly in the stone-flagged courtyard in front of the shop. An attendant opened the door for them to enter.

Daenya's eyes went wide when she saw the interior. "There is... so much fabric! And these dresses!" She grinned. "How is it that I have never been here?"

Bella was busy helping a few customers with something but she turned smiling when she saw Vira. Daenya she didn't recognise.
"My ladies. Welcome."

" know, and it's all so inventive," Vira said to Daenya in a low voice. "Bella certainly has an imagination."
As the shop's proprietress approached, Vira smiled. "Mistress Bella, may I present Princess Daenya, a princess of the blood royal. She very much liked that blue dress I chose for her. Do you have any new arrivals?"

"Always," said Bella. "Perhaps you would like to look at the newest gowns, and the new fabrics too. We can make any style of gown in any fabric."
If she was concerned by Daenya's appearance , she didn't say so.

"Well, nothing too daring," Vira said with a smile. She was cautious, for she was new to court and a common-born bastard besides, and the last thing she wanted was to gain a reputation for being a bad influence over the King's own daughter. "I did think she'd look marvelous in a bare-shouldered gown in blue samite though, it would bring out her eyes. And her bone structure is so exquisite."
