Located not that far from Oldtown, at least not as the dragon flies, Castle Uplands is located in the foothills of the Dornish Marches as the elevation begins to rise and the plains give way to the forest that covers western edge of the mountain range. The Castle itself is a stout holdfast, with a small bailey surrounded by a stone curtain wall.

The dragon Cyrax appears over Uplands, circling the castle twice before swooping down to land outside of the gates. Maekar unfastens the chains and slides off the beast's back, calling out to the gate guards. "I am Ser Maekar Waters, come to seek an audience with Lord Mullendore."

Lord Mullendore's men glare at him. "Our lord is not receiving visitors, bastard."

"Has he seen the hundred year old dragon sitting outside his gates," Maekar called up to the men on the gatehouse. He began to walk back over to Cyrax and leapt back up onto the dragon's back, making sure they were out of bow range. "I came here to offer Lord Mullendore the chance to win land and glory, but if he prefers that I offer him Fire and Blood, I can do that as well, despite being a Waters!"

The guards shrieked and one dropped his spear.
"I'll go fetch Lord Mullendore," one said.
e returned ten minutes later with a message. "Lord Mullendore will see you, ser, but the dragon stays away from the castle."

"As you wish," Maekar said, climbing down off the dragon once again. He walked up to the gates, waiting for someone to lead him to Lord Mullendore's solar.

Mullendore's solar was a short walk away. Uplands was significantly smaller than Horn Hill.
When Maekar arrived at the solar, he saw a patch of dark wall where something, probably a tapestry, had once hung. He also noticed the glint of something sparkly from behind one of Mullendore's chairs.
Lord Mullendore was an old man, pale and well fed compared to his garrison. He bowed clumsily.
"Ser. Welcome to my home and hearth." But the words were said grudgingly.

"You have my thanks for your kind welcome, my lord," Maekar said with a winning smile, as if he had not had to use the threat of dragon fire to get through the gates. "The King's Army marches on Oldtown, and I am sent to gather whatever men the leal Lords of Westeros can contribute. I know that the years have been difficult on the reach, but when the war is finally ended the rewards will be substantial for those who answered the King's call."

"Indeed? Ser, I want no part of this war. It has cost my house enough. I lost several kin in battle. Why should I give more?"
Maekar recalled rumours that Mullendore had some sympathies with the enemy despite the fact that his nephew had died fighting for the crown.

Maekar nodded gravely. "I remember your nephew; he was a good knight and a good man, and he died with honor. Serving his King loyally; as good a death as any man can wish for. Honor his memory, with the blood of the enemy," Maekar said, his voice hardening.
"Besides that, I have heard rumors of soldiers with butterflies on their livery among the Faith soldiers that have raided our armies in the Reach. Make no mistake; this campaign will end in victory and the Faith Militant will be destroyed. Afterwards, his grace will remember who served loyally, and who did not," he added ominously. "If you have no men to send, the army will take gold or silver in their place."

"House Mullendore is always dutiful," the lord squealed, falling to his knees. "You'll have your men, ser. Only please be sure the king knows of my loyalty, I beg you."
Tears rolled down his cheeks.

"Two hundred foot will suffice, I know that you have been depleted by long years of warfare. Do not think your loyalty will go unrewarded, my lord," he added, indicating to a map of his lands and the neighboring lands belonging to Lord Hightower. "When can your men be ready to march? I will escort them to the Roseroad, so that they can join Prince Aegon and the royal army."

"Two hundred? That's a lot, ser. I can send a hundred with you now but I would need longer to send two hundred." The old man sank back into his chair. "I can't go with you. I'm too old."

"How many can you send? You do not need to ride with us yourself, so long as your men obey their captain and their captain obeys the Prince," Maekar said, a slight tone of impatience creeping into his voice. "One hundred bowmen? Fifty Knights? I do not have all day, I mean to reach Sunflower Hall by tomorrow," he added.

"We can send fifty archers and fifty men at arms could go with you now. I can send another hundred foot if you'll give me leave to send someone to raise the levies. Ser, you won't get much aid from House Cuy. Their lord is dead and they lost most all their men in the war."

Maekar nodded. "Raise your levies as quickly as you can, then, and appoint someone to lead them to meet the Prince's host, either on the road or outside Oldtown. Once your men join the army, they are to place themselves under Ser Anders Rowan's command," he said, extending his hand to shake. "I am glad we could come to an agreement, my lord."

Lord Mullendore' handshake was feeble and he didn't look pleased. "The gods will see that the righteous achieve victory."

"Indeed they will, Lord Mullendore. Be glad that you will be aligned with the righteous when they finally triumph," he replied. He went from the Lord's solar to the barracks, where he took aside the captain of Lord Mullendor's men, and detailed where he was to march to meet up with the royal army, and ordering him to present himself to Ser Anders Rowan when he did so.
After his business was concluded, he hastily left Uplands and mounted Cyrax and took flight, heading south.
