"It is Visenya that is being your sister is it no?" Kesi asked. "If sister is saying that she is forgiven are you not beleiving her? Surely nothing can be bad enough to be tearing close sisters apart?"

"Yes, Visenya is my sister. It is not that I don't believe her, I do. I meant more that our relationship is different now. We are speaking more openly, at last, so I hope that things will be alright again soon. She has had a difficult time too, so I want to be there for her, as she has been for me for so long."

"Openly speaking can be being bad as well as being good." Kesi said gently. "Sometimes you are getting to know much more then you are wanting to hear from someone who is being so close to you."

"I suppose so, though I never wish to be dishonest with those I love. How does one live an honest life otherwise. I try not to force people to know more than they are willing, but I believe that I must tell the truth as best I can. Difficult in a place like this, I suppose, with so many masks."
Elsey realised that her thoughts had gotten a little tangled up. She shook her head slowly, looking apologetically at Kesi.
"I'm sorry, my thoughts are a little strangely ordered at the moment. Lack of sleep does odd things to the mind."

"Who is saying anything about being dishonest?" Kesi asked. "Just be knowing that too much truth at once is sometimes doing worse damage then not enough."

"I see," said Elseyris, thoughtfully. "I had not thought of it like that. I think you are right. I will bear that in mind. I certainly do not wish to do anyone any harm."
That wasn't entirely true, given her contempt for the King and her cruel shadow, but Elseyris knew that making any distinction, especially with Trajan present, was dangerous.

Kesi smiled. "It is sometimes being a close thing on what is being too much or too little." She said.
"But tell me how you are feeling?" Though she was ambiguous her eyes flicked once again to the shadow by the wall and it was clear what she was talking about.

Catching Kesi's meaning, Elsey's voice became very hushed, her expression fearful;
"Stalked. Hunted. Unsafe. Afraid," she said quietly, with some pause for thought between the words.

"Of course you do." Kesi said. "what is it that is being said sometimes..."
She thought a moment. "Tugas pertama manusia untuk menaklukkan rasa takut, ia harus menyingkirkan itu, karena dia tidak bisa bertindak sampai saat itu..." She frowned as she thought of the best translation. "The first task of man to conquer fear, he must get rid of it, because he can not act until then."

Elsey listened to the proverb intently, and thought about it.
"Those words have wisdom. However, one could say that someone cannot truly be brave if they are not even a little afraid."
Elsey looked earnestly into Kesi's eyes, and Kesi could see pain, loss, and sadness there.
"If you were me, how would you get rid of the fear?"

"Are you knowing my fear?" Kesi asked suddenly.

Elsey was surprised by the question, and worried that she had inadvertently caused offense;
"N...no... no, I don't," she said, apprehensively.

"Fire." Kesi said. "I am having fear of fire, sometimes I am struggling to be using it in the things I am needing to do but then I think of what could be happening and what I would be doing if Gendry and Rosey were being near it and I am knowing truly that I would be brave enough to be facing it to be saving them."
"When time is coming then you will find enough to be being brave in worst times."

Putting the mortar & pestle to one side on the nearby table, Elsey reached out for Kesi's hand;
"I'm sorry, Kesi. That must be awful. I never imagined you being afraid of anything."
She glanced over at the children.
"I know you'd be brave in the face of anything to protect them. They clearly mean a lot to you."
She thought for a moment, then looked back to Kesi;
"Would that be something I could do to help? Do the things that need fire?"

"Anyone who is having nothing to fear is not being mortal." Kesi said. "What I am meaning though is when you are truly needing to you will be finding strength enough to be facing what you are needing to."
She wrinkled her nose up and waved a hand dismissively. "I can work around fire, what is being good of having talents like mine and not being able to avoid something like that."

"I understand. Thank you. I hope you are right."
Elsey picked up the mortar again, but did not yet recommence grinding the petals.
"When I was wounded at Oldtown, and my dragon was killed, I was terrified and heartbroken. I had lost my lifelong friend, and was helpless against the enemy. But there was someone there with me, someone I cared for very much, who kept me going, even though I couldn't fight anymore. I often think I survived because they gave me back the will to do so.I should not lost the hope and courage they gave me now. That would be a disservice to them, would it not?"
Elseyris first looked sad as she recounted her memory, but towards the end, a small, warm smile spread across her face, as she thought of the person to whom she referred.

"It would be great insult I am thinking." Kesi said. "In my land there is being a rule... A man can be asking just one thing on his wedding night from his wife, and she him. Everything else remains each others property. There are being tales of the one demand being courage. Husband did not want anything from wife except her courage to be facing future together."
"On your field in Oldtown you were given new life when you could have been cast aside as just another mouth to be feeding. But people that are caring for you will never be leaving you even when it is seeming they are. Do not be losing hope Elseyris. It is not being easy road for you but there is being happiness at end."

"That is a beautiful tale. Very romantic," Elsey smiled. "I hope he and his wife were happy together."
Elsey smiled warmly at Kesi;
"Thank you, Kesi. You have been very kind to me, I appreciate it. I will not give up hope. I think you are right, someone cannot truly be absent if we hold them in our hearts, can they?"
She began to crush the petals again;
"If you were back home, what one thing would you ask of your husband? If that is not too personal a question," she added.

Kesi smiled. "It has been so long, I am not remembering what was asked." She said, touching her bracelet without thinking. "I am knowing that it is true. So long as there is memory of person, they are never leaving."

Elsey thought of her father, before he became so controlled by drink that he condemned the family to shame. She thought of Nenyan, swooping through the sky with her over the Blackwater on a clear, bright day. She thought of Aegon, thousands of miles away, and wondered if he missed her as much as she missed him. If they kept eachother in their thoughts and hearts, then perhaps they were not entirely apart, not truly.
"That is a very comforting thought. Thank you for showing that way of thinking to me. I feel like I should be able to do more to thank you for your counsel. I would not wish anyone to think I do not value friendship."

"Friendship is not there to be traded on." Kesi said, pushing the bowl away and dragging a new one filled with a blue liquid towards her. "I am being sure that when I am needing something like you are now then I can be coming to you."
She scooped a handful of the white powder out and put it in the liquid.
"You are knowing that you are being welcome any time you are needing to be seen?"

""Of course. I am at your service whenever needed, Kesi," Elsey said cheerfully. "And thank you for your offer, that is kind of you."
She looked into the bowl of blue liquid, and watched Kesi pour in the powder;
"What is that?"

Kesi mixed the two together to form little clumps of crystals.
"Is something to be curing poison of heart." She said. "Eventually it will be anyway. This is only being starting stage. It is being from plant you were planting for me."

"Poison of the heart? Sounds awful," said Elsey, with genuine concern. "Is that what is wrong with Rosey?"

"No, Rosey was wasting. She was being starved and being cold for much of life." Kesi answered. "She is going to be better now."
