Brandon sighed. This was not helpful.
"Well, alright then." he said.

Late in the evening, Kesi sent for Brusco who was both a guard and a friend to the sorceress, she was dressed in a non-de-script black dress and cloak, covering her tell tale blue hair and both children were sleeping.

Brusco arrived in his usual plain clothing, having learned that it was best to keep his flamboyant Braavosi attire for his days off. He bowed to her. "My lady. Are we going to gather herbs again?"

"No." Kesi answered. "We are gathering something else for time being. Night is not good time to be gathering herbs in woods, I am thinking."

"You are the herbalist, my lady. What are we looking for?" He asked.

"Not plants." Kesi answered, glancing at the girl still in her own bed. "We are needing to go to Flea Bottom."

"What for? You're not rescuing more children, are you? We don't have room for any more," Brusco grumbled. "And the servants are talking already."

"No." Kesi answered shortly, picking up a small but wickedly sharp knife and placing it somewhere safe near her body. "We are just saving the one."

"One? Another child?" He asked. "Why just one?"

"No other child." Kesi said softly. "I cannot be saving another child. Rosey is dying. I am needing to save her."

"So why go to Flea Bottom? We will surely pick up a disease there. If we are not robbed or slain first."

"I am having you to guard me, unless you are saying that you are not being good enough for job?" Kesi said, with an eyebrow raised. "We are going to Flea Bottom because that is where I am needing to go. You will not be picking disease up unless you are going to be laying with a whore, and I am hoping that I can be trusting you not to be doing that?"

"I would never lay with a whore in Flea Bottom," he said. "They probably all have the pox."
But he still didn't understand what she wanted there.
"Lead on, my lady."

"That is being good to know." Kesi said, with dry humour. She waited until he exited the room then locked the door, keeping her two charges inside.

Elseyris knocked on the sorceress' door with a hand covered in dry soil. In the other, equally dirty hand, was a small sack.

Kesi opened it after shooing various children out of the way.
She smiled when she saw Elsey.
"You are being back." She said, then she saw the red eyes that came with recently crying, or wanting to cry. "You are wanting drink?"

"Indeed, I return, and triumphant," Elsey replied, holding the sack aloft, smiling, not having thought about how her eyes looked.
"A small drink would be nice, thank you."

"My Dieffenbachia?" Kesi asked, her smile turning into a rare grin. "You are bringing good news to me, Lady Elseyris."
She poured them both a drink, after sending Gendry to talk to Rosey. She then pointed Elsey to sit.
"Now be telling me what is wrong."

"Yes, it grew. There is still some down there, as I wasn't sure how much you would want."
She placed the sack down beneath the table as she sat down, gratefully taking a sip of the drink Kesi poured.
"It was... very upsetting. Being back down there, without him. Recently, I feel like I am losing everything I love."

"This is being enough." Kesi said, putting the plant in a box so that she could dry it and mash it up later.
"It is being hard when you are reminded of things that you are losing." She agreed, her eyes flicking to the boy then back. "It makes you feel like it is being a good idea to do something crazy. But it does get better."

"I can hardly do anything crazy when I am unable to do anything at all," said Elsey, quietly, her voice shaking a little as she fought her tears. "I am at the mercy of a merciless man, how can anything get better?"

Kesi passed Elsey a piece of white silk for her tears.
"Maybe man can be surprising you some day. It is not like you have lost your family is it? Your mother and sister and brother are still loving of you?"

"I doubt it, Kesi, much as I wish it were so. I am the daughter of a traitor, I am forever condemned for someone else's actions."
Elsey sighed heavily and sadly;
"My family... well, my mother is constantly terrified for us, and nothing I try to say ever reassures her. Probably because she is right about how much danger we live in, and I am being naive. My brother and sister, I think, do love me, but we have grown very distant since our father died. All three of them still treat me like a child most of the time..."
She looked towards the window for a moment;
"In truth, I would trade all of their loves for the one I stand to lose."

"Are you being a coward?" Kesi asked. "Or a traitor yourself?"
"To them you are being a child. When Gendry is growing I will always be remembering him as the boy he is, not the man that he will be. It is the way of people that are loving you. You say that you would trade them but if you are having no family then you are feeling it truly."

"Oh no, I'm no traitor, I have served the Realm loyally. For all the good it has done me," she added, sardonically. "And none who had seen me at the battle for Oldtown could suspect me of cowardice. That is not to say that I do not feel fear. I feel it almost constantly. From threats both outside and within."
"I suppose I am unfair to my family. It is just that, since my father... disgraced us... my family has been an obstacle in everything I do. I will likely never be free, because of who my father was. I know that is not my mother or siblings' fault, but they remind me."
Elsey glanced at Gendry, and offered him a wan smile, before looking back to Kesi;
"I didn't know you had children, Kesi."
