Valarr Stone lives here. The room is near the royal apartments. It has a good sized bed covered with plain blankets and a goose feather pillow and mattress. The furniture is plain and functional. Weapons and bottles of fine wine are given pride of place in Valarr's chamber.

After spending time at the party, and having time to think on it, she approached the door of her uncle and knocked, waiting patiently to see if he was inside.

He opened the door himself and grinned warmly at her. He was clothed in a simple white silk tunic and tight black breeches, his silky hair combed flat for once rather than wild.
Valarr was always kind to Rhaella's children, though there were few enough people besides their mother who would ever apply that description to him. His fury in battle, and his dragon's ferocity, combined with their shared penchant for burning traitors. had given him a slightly shady reputation outside the family.
"Rhaena. You look pretty today," he said. "As beautiful as your mother at the same age. What can I do for you tonight?"

Rhaena smiled at his words, personal appearance mattered very little to her, but she could appreciate a compliment when it suited her, "I can only hope I can grow as beautiful as she is as I get older," her smile faulted partly at the thought of what she had actually come here to talk about.
"I have a somewhat... odd request. In that it is odd coming from your sixteen year old niece, not that it is not a question that should be posed to you.." she said, uncommonly flustered in her speech. Asking for help made her uncomfortable.

He saw her unease and smiled as he hushered her insdie the room. "Please, you must speak freely, niece. I know you would ask nothing of me that would displease your mother and father. What is it you desire?"

"I might need your help," She said to him, looking around the room, glad to be out of the corridor, "You know that father has incredibly high standards for us, I imagine," she began to explain, rubbing the back of her head with her hand, "Well, he has seen fit to honour with me two thousand men marching from the west to Highgarden, which is very generous, but I have never commanded men before, and while I think I would be perfectly capable, considering the already fickle nature of this war and how terrible it would be to potentially put that many soldier's lives at risk with my relative lack of experience, I was wondering if I could persuade you to come along with me as a kind of... advisor?" she suggested, biting her lip a little after the ramble, "Please?" she added to the end, with a grin. She was already thinking up alternatives should he say no.

His smile widened. "Of course I'll come with my favourite niece," he said. "I've been aching to get back in the field again and Ithilgore grows ever restless. I am sure your mother does not require my protection quite yet." He poured amber wine from a bottle into two small glasses and handed her one.
"Your courage has not gone unnoticed then, though I won't deny I too am surprised by the duty laid upon you. But it is perhaps time and I would be happy to help."

"I bet you say the exact same thing to Aemy and Daenya," she teased lightly knowing his words could very well be true, " and would that my courage be enough to command men, but experience is what I need and someone to held direct me should I go astray and I immediately thought of my uncle in that regard." She said, taking a sip of wine, "Time or not, it is upon me, I hope it doesn't upset mother, I get the feeling she doesn't always approve of me,"

The liquid burned like no wine Rhaena had ever had but Valarr drank his down in two mouthfuls bef
"It's not that. You follow in your mother's footsteps in some respects. She is proud of your skills as a warrior. But she wishes you wore fine dresses more often when you are not in the field. That is not the same as being proud of you. Truth be told, I think you are the most like her, aside from your reluctance to wear fine dresses. Aemy is, well, Aemy, and Daenya has her funny turns. But you, Rhaena, are a niece I can be proud of. Your mother is somewhat reluctant to show favour to any of her daughters above the others, but she loves you deeply. I know this will please her, though you must expect her to worry about you. It is a mother's right, I'm told. I'll do what I can to keep you safe and help you learn to command."

"I hope I am not putting you in danger with her, by entrusting my well being to you so selfishly, I should hate to get you in trouble with her if anything did happen," Rhaena responded to him, smiling despite herself at talk of her mother's pride, she didn't do things for personal gain, but it was always nice to be appreciated, "Dresses are very rarely practical for me, I find them more confining the trousers, but should I return, I should promise her to wear them more."

"That will make your mother happy. You know how it is, though. A queen must set an example, and so she does. But she wears breeches in the training yard and in the field and when riding Amethyst."
He drank some more of the fiery liquid.
"Don't worry, I can answer for myself if need be. Your mother will be fine without us."

"She could set an example by not wearing dresses, then other women would not feel the need to be shackled to them," Rhaena replied, she was fairly passionate at the Andal trend of subjugating their women, it did not sit right with her at all, when she enjoyed such freedom, if there was a time after the war when she would be able, she might try to do something about it.
"It is unfair to rush you, but I would like to leave as soon as possible, tomorrow if at all?" she'd have preferred tonight, but that was too short notice.

"Tomorrow will serve. That gives me time to inform those who need to be informed and see that Ithilgore is ready to go."
His expression gentled. "Rhaena, some women like wearing dresses. Mayhaps they would not like it if they had to wear breeches. Your mother and yourself are perhaps unusual in that you were raised to wear breeches when it suits you. But you must know that your mother wears no shackles in any way."

"I should not force anyone to not wear them, but make it less of a problem if one does not wish to, for many women there is no choice, mother and I being exceptions." She said, clarifying her position, it is hardly giving more freedom by forcing people to just do something else. "Mayhaps some men would prefer dresses."

That made him laugh - he was a man who laughed loudly and often. "Oh, Rhaena, you say the funniest things. Pray do not tell your father that. I fear he might put your brother in a dress. In the lands beyond the Free Cities, I hear many of the people wear robes akin to dresses, both male and female."

"I should like to go east one day, to see such things, we can probably learn plenty from them," she let herself revel in a moment of whimsy then snapped out of it, "do you think I should tell mother myself?"

"That would be best. It would be rude to just go without telling her, and you know your mother likes to observe the courtesies. And it is your duty as a daughter to keep her informed. Your father will speak of the matter, of course, but no doubt your mother would wish to make her farewells."
He grinned again.
"I cannot imagine the king offering any of you a goodbye embrace, can you?"

"Nor should he, I like to think it's because he is certain I shall return victorious and therefore views it as unnecessary, but you are right, I should say goodbye to my mother, if only to try and put her mind at ease. Do you know if she is in her rooms?"

"I'm not sure but it's likely. You may well catch her before she goes to bed. It's very late. And, well, best hurry in case your father is of a mind to join her tonight. He's not a man I'd leave waiting."

The thought of walking in on her father and mother... joining, made her nose wrinkle, they were far to old to be doing things like that. "Hurrying is in my best interest then," she replied and moved towards the door.
"Oh and uncle, what on earth is that drink?"

"Apple and honey brandy from Tyrosh. The ambassador gifted us several casks of Tyroshi spirits. Your mother gave this one to me. I find it extremely palatable. Hurry, child." He winked.

"I hate honey," she muttered, before leaving to run off towards the royal bedchambers.
