Again, he was caught by surprise, not expecting to find any other Targaryen in the place. He forced a smile and nodded at her.
As she spoke he noticed he felt the same way she did, so he stood there listening to her questions and learning more about that religion that prioritized the welfare of people rather than an hedonic lifestyle.

Elsey's enthusiasm was infectious, and Aegon smiled as she hugged him. "Of course. I am no septon, but I shall do my best."
Aegon took three candles from an alcove in the wall, placing one in Elseyris' hands and offering a second to Maelys. "We kneel," Aegon said, "And light our candles from the fires that burn before the statues of the gods. We remember that Targaryens are kings among men, but even kings must be humble before the wisdom of the gods."
"May the Father give us strength in hard decisions, the Mother teach us mercy, and may the Crone give us the wisdom to know when each is appropriate. Smith keep our weapons unbroken, Warrior watch over the lives of the soldiers who fight for our name. And may the Maiden watch after her own, the Lady Elseyris, who kneels before her today. And should we not strive to do our duty and keep our oaths, may the Stranger take us all." Aegon then closed his eyes and bowed his head in silent prayer.

Maelys thought before accepting his nephew's hand. If he kneeled to a proper prayer he'd be going against all he had believed all his life, he'd be giving himself to the enemy... Though, what had the gods of old Valyria given him? A family of selfish hedonists? A wife who left him? Not any of them had answered when he prayed for his children to come back, not Corion, his patron and smallest and most obscure of the lower ring of the Valyrian pantheon.
He took it and knelt. Even though he knew his brother would not accept it easily, but he never did with anything.

When Aegon opened his eyes again, he was heartened to see Maelys kneeling beside him. Aegon gave him a warm smile. "You are always welcome here, uncle. I find this place sometimes helps me to order my thoughts."

Maelys nodded sadly, he felt the peace that overflowed in the place and he liked it, it made him feel closer than ever to the people he had defended for so long. But he couldn't abide thinking of his brother's rage when he discovered, it definetly wouldn't suit him well.
"Thank you, my nephew! Though I guess your father won't accept this as easily as you did..."

"No," Aegon answered bluntly, "He will not." Aegon recalled catching a glimpse of Maelys at the feast the night before, stalking off with an expression of shock and rage. The King's doing, no doubt, but Aegon would not shame his uncle by asking about it where others could hear. "But nothing worth having comes without obstacles, and that includes faith."

"Concealing it won't do no good though..." He sighed. "I'll talk to your mother first, she might take it easieri."

Aegon looked the Lord Commander in the eye. "You are your own man, Maelys. You need not justify what is in your heart to any man or woman. But if there is anything I can do to support you, please let me know."

Kneeling between Aegon and Maelys, Elseyris felt a peace and safety she hadn't known in a long time. And something else that had been long lost. Hope. She copied Aegon in closing her eyes, and imagined each stone face in turn as she prayed silently. The double meaning within the first prayer was not lost on her; Father, guide me to do what is right. Mother, help me to practise kindness to those who need it from me. Crone, help me to become wise from the life ahead of me. Smith, let my armour deflect my enemies. Warrior, lend me your strength in my battles to come. Maiden, let my soul not be tainted by ill will, greed, or delusion, and shine a light in my heart, for a pure love to find. And, if I fail to live up to my honour, which I dedicate to you, then may The Stranger usher me out with dignity. She let her eyes flicker open, blinking in the glow of the candles. She glanced at Maelys, his face clearly troubled, and placed a hand on his shoulder; "I see you are upset about something. If you want to talk, I'm here for you. You don't have to hide from me." As they got back to their feet, she took Aegon's hand again; "Thank you, that felt...good. There was a solace in that I wasn't expecting. I hope this will help us in what is to come." She caught the eyes of The Warrior, and a question sprung to mind; "Aegon, I... is there a formal ceremony, or an oath I must take, before I can join your forces?"

Dany left the Stranger's corner after hearing the voices and approached the speakers quietly. She stopped at a distance and recognized the Crown Prince, as well as her young cousin she'd seen at the party. From what she overheard, the third was a family member as well. Smirking a little at the irony, she decided not to bother them and made her way out of the Sept.
Three Targaryens in a Sept, kneeling, she thought, and made her way out of this shady part of the city.

It's just an old man's grievance!" He smiled sincelrely at her, he was happy that she cared.

Aegon thought. "There is nothing so formal as that," Aegon answered, "But I would accept your oath of loyalty."

He gave a chuckle. "Of course, my darling."
"Niece... Nephew..." Maelys nodded at both of them. "I must be on my way... Please, do keep this in secret until a better time comes."

Aegon thought. "There is nothing so formal as that," Aegon answered, "But I would accept your oath of loyalty." "Then there is no time like the present," she said, sinking to one knee before him, her face solemn and intense. She wasn't sure whether to bow her head or not, opting to look directly into his eyes, reasoning it to be more sincere. She also didn't know precisely what to say, but decided to trust her instinct, and let her heart express itself; "Before this one witness and seven Gods, I, Elseyris Targaryen, swear my loyalty to you, Prince Aegon Targaryen of Dragonstone. I will honour and protect you to my last breath. I am your sword and your shield, your faithful servant henceforth. This devotion I pledge upon my honour and my life." She bowed her head, then slowly stood up, meeting his gaze again, waiting for some manner of response to show she had spoken well enough.

Maelys bowed, covered his head with the ragged hood and went to meet his sister.

Aegon took her hand and helped her to her feet, still meeting her eyes. "Rise, Elseyris Targaryen," Aegon adopted the same solemn tone. "I accept your oath, and I will not misuse it." After a short silence, Aegon resumed in a more normal tone of voice. "See to it that you are ready to leave at a moment's notice. I am not yet sure when we will depart." He nods to Maelys as he goes.

"I will, My Lord. Thank you." She glanced outside, noticing that a little more time had passed than she thought. "I should go, I'm not even supposed to be here without an escort. Perhaps we can join forces for future visits, since you are now an accomplice in my transgression," she said, with a mock conspiratorial tone.

"You have no need of escorts now," Aegon asserted. "You are free to travel as you please. But I am often here, when my duty allows. I am sure we will see each other again soon."

She nodded; "Yes, My Lord. I shall prepare, and await your summons. In the meantime, I would be glad to be of assistance with the Sept's good work, if yourself or your Septon are of need." With that, she left the Sept quietly, but, once she was sure she was no longer visible, bolted into a run, brimming with joy, a huge grin on her face. She even allowed herself a whoop of delight, as she tore along her path, her own room the ultimate goal of her exuberant sprinting.

Daenerys Velaryon arrived at the Sept, having heard horrifying rumours about the septon's death.

The sept didn't look like the site of a murder. She did, however, find a man in grey robes sitting inside with a mournful expression. He rose when he saw her and bowed at once. "My lady," he said, knowing a highborn woman when he saw one.
