His Grace, King Maegor II, re-entered the hall after and took a seat near the Tyroshi ambassador. Maelys approached the his brother's seat. "Your grace?" He said looking at the ground. Maegor turned his attention from the Tyroshi ambassador to his brother, eyes flashing with momentary annoyance at the interruption.
"Yes, commander?"

"Pardon me for interrupting you conversation with the glorious Ambassador." He gave a quick bow to his grace's companion. "Might I ask a deliverance from my duties for the next few days....? I have some business to attend in Sharp Point."

If His Grace's face had been marked by annoyance before, now it was irate.
"What business could be of more import than keeping law and order within this city?" he asked, acidly.

If His Grace's face had been marked by annoyance before, now it was irate. "What business could be of more import than keeping law and order within this city?" he asked, acidly. "Family matters, your grace." Maelys glanced up. He knew his brother temperament, that's why he avoided general contact with the king. "The Goldcloaks are well aware of their duties, I can leave my second to command. I won't take long, depending on the course of things I may already back tomorrow by this hour."

"Your family is here." he replied coldly. "Your duty is here."

Blood had started to fill Maelys' head, but exploding with the King would be even a greater idiotic act than exploding with his protected Knight Inquisitor son.
"Your majesty might not be aware, but my twins live with their mother in Sharp Point." It was hard for him to admit it to someone else, even worse to admit it to his King brother who had a happy marriage and dozens of children, which both he treated like shit. "I had compromised myself with this post everyday in the last twenty three years, therefore not seen them since your grace's coronation. One day is all I ask."

"Do your wife and children contribute to the war effort, commander?" Maegor asked rhetorically. "Do they have dragons of their own? Have any of them bled for this realm? Are they even of age to hold a sword?"
"If not, then they do not concern me. Your obligation is to King's Landing. Your weak bitch of a wife abandoned this city and her duty to you. Do not make the same mistake."

Shock and hate, Maelys was paralyzed. "No, your majesty." His only reaction was to look to the ground and walk away, for he had just been humiliated in front of the whole court.

"Ah," Aegon chuckles, "If you insist, I would not want to be a bore." The prince took her hand with his, then placed his other hand on the small of his back and began guiding her through the steps of the dance. True to his word, his footwork was not incredibly graceful, but his hands were sure and firm. "This one," Aegon removes his hand for a moment to roll his sleeve, revealing a long scar on his forearm, "I got at the Battle of Dawn Hill, not far from Sarsfield. I swear the man was past seven feet tall, with no armor but a star cut into his chest. He shattered my shield with one stroke, but I felled him soon after." Aegon's dancing was tolerable. He was good enough to at least avoid stepping on Visenya's silk slippers. When he pulled back his sleeve, she gasped. "Seven feet tall and with only a star...cut...into his flesh? Why would a man do such a thing?! Were you not terrified?"

"It was some twisted measure of proving his devotion, I imagine," Aegon answered. "And the strange thing about battle is, once it starts, there is no more room for fear. To be ruled by such an emotion would be a dishonor to those who risk their lives fighting alongside you."

"Oh," she said lamely, letting them dance on in silence for a step or two before speaking up again. "I have heard a rumor, cousin, about your own devotion. Some have said that you keep a sept in the city. Some have said that you have turned your back on Old Valyria."

Aegon was not sure what he had said wrong -- perhaps he had been too serious and grim? But before he could ponder out that particular puzzle, Visenya speaks up again. "Aegon the Conqueror turned his back on Old Valyria, when he decided to create something new and better," Aegon answers. "I follow his lead. And I do give money to a sept in the city. Faith has torn apart this kingdom in many ways. Is it not appropriate for it now to heal what damage has been done?"

She nodded. "Faith has destroyed this land and brought suffering to those who most need relief. They must surely see us as monsters, riding on the backs of monsters." They continued to dance, but did not laugh and smile as the other couples did. "My father always said..." she faltered, flicking her gaze upward to gauge Aegon's reaction. It was too late to just stop, though, so she continued, "He always said that Westeros needed a king who would reconcile the rulers of the realm with its people. Perhaps you will be that king, Aegon."

Aegon did not reply for a long time. He was not sure how much to say to this alluring cousin of his, with her coy touches and tainted parentage. But she had chosen to confide in him something that could certain people could use against her. Aegon believed ultimately that honesty should be met with honesty, trust rewarded with trust. Perhaps that was a naive philosophy to take in devious warren of King's Landing, but Aegon was a man who believed nothing would ever change unless one led by example.
"My father only knows how to destroy. It is not a useless talent," Aegon concedes, grudgingly, "But it is only half of what a king must do. We must win this war, true. But after we have defeated our enemies, someone has to build it back up. Someone has to keep the peace, feed the people, rule justly and honorably. If I wanted anything less, I would not be worthy of the title."

She also worried in the silence, fearing that she would be cast away and called traitor, same as her father. But that was not Aegon's way, and so she waited and danced on. When he at last spoke, and did not chastise her for speaking of poor dead Prince Aenar, she felt somewhat grateful to him. She felt as though he had honoured the dead as his father had never done.
"There is a time for war," she agreed, "but war has been perpetuated for longer than either of us have lived. When will it end?" She sighed and looked uncomfortable. "I'm sorry, we should talk of something more pleasant. Or frivolous. Or something."

"That is the question, isn't it?" Aegon sighed as well.
The song ebbed to its finish, and Aegon stepped away only reluctantly. "This was not the conversation I expected to have during this dance," Aegon said with a small smile, "But I am glad that we had it. I am afraid I have to attend to the duties of my station. But I will hold you to that frivolous, pleasant conversation." Aegon took Visenya's hand and kissed the back of it.

Visenya's smile sprang back to her face as he kissed her hand, though it was not the coquettish one her features usually held. "I will look forward to it. Thank you for allowing me to speak freely, Aegon. I appreciate it." She curtseyed and let him go. "Oh, and Aegon? You are more graceful a dancer than you give yourself credit for."

Aegon grinned. "I am an ox dancing with a nightingale, my lady Visenya. But it is good of you to let me think so. Until next time." Aegon made a final courtly bow, then made his way off the dancing floor and back into the crowd.

Visenya looked almost giddy as she stepped off the dance floor, in the opposite direction from her cousin. She quickly composed herself, snagging a glass of wine. Was it her third? She thought it might be. She stumbled on a bit of loose tile (or maybe it was the edge of her skirt) and stumbled into a young man's back. "I'm terribly sorry!" she exclaimed, patting at the damp spot on the shoulder of his doublet where her wine had sloshed. "I'm so..." the words died in her throat when she realized who it was. He had stood behind her as she had watched her father die. Trajan Waters, the one they called the Stranger's Hand.

A flash of annoyance passed over the normally impassive face of the Knight Inquisitor, as the only doublet he was ever seen in was stained, the dark wine seeping into the black fabric and beading upon the silver buttons.
Regaining his composure, he took her wrist swiftly in his hand to prevent him from dabbing at him further. The overcoat shifted slightly to the side, revealing numerous weapons of his trade including the silver handle of his braavosi blade with skull pommel and a miniature crossbow with black bolts.
"It is quite alright, princess." he said with a razor smile that didn't quite reach his eyes, not yet releasing her wrist. He emphasized the word princess as if it were an insult, the only one that dared still call the children of Aenar that as some sort of cruel joke. "You must watch your step."

"I've been attempting to gather quite a bit of material on ancient Valyria. I have a feeling that there is an item that can help us win the war, there," Baelor says, the thought of holding Dragonbinder filling his eyes with an almost mad gleam It took her a while to think of an item that useful and during a spin, she accidentally locked eyes with a ridiculously handsome young Stormlander across the room, but she finally realized what Baelor could have been talking about. With some effort, she looked back to her cousin, her cheeks slightly tinted now. "The ancient horn used for binding dragons? Do you think it still exists then?" she asked, eyes widening. Both in theory and practice, this would have been a very dangerous thing for a single man to possess. "If it doesn't, I intend to find out. Though an object of that value and magnitude... It's likely been kept safe in some way or another," Baelor's mind turned when he saw the blush on her cheeks, and almost stumbled. Was she blushing because of him? He didn't know that such a discussion would have such an impact on a woman. He figured it had to be someone else in the room.

Visenya's throat went dry when she saw his weapons. She was sure that his coat had not shifted by accident. His hand on her wrist was viselike, so different from the seductive touch of Blackwood or the comfortable touch of Aegon. She clenched her hand into a fist rather than struggle, and tightened her jaw as he hissed at her, "Princess."
"I will be sure to, in the future, cousin." She looked him straight in the eye, though her blood ran cold at the mere thought of him. "Kindly unhand me." Her voice was surprisingly steady, for all that she was shaking like a leaf. She hoped he would not notice.

Aegon bore a thoughtful expression as he fetched a cup of wine, but he banished it upon seeing Tycho Plutoris, the representative from the Iron Bank. He highly doubted that what followed would be pleasant conversation, but as Prince of Dragonstone he had certain obligations towards their guests. Aegon approached.
"Lord Plutoris, I presume?" Aegon was not so sure of his Braavosi titles, so afforded the man the title of lord as a courtesy. "I am Prince Aegon of Dragonstone. I hope your quarters and the feast is to your satisfaction."

The banker glanced at her, his icy countenance giving the impression that smiling and laughing were for others to enjoy.
"My visits are rarely a cause for celebration." he replied with a formal bow. "Princess...?"
Naeterys wondered if the man actually was as cold as he portrayed to be, or if he was just trying to keep up appearances and the sight of such greatness as a room full of Targaryens. It was probably a combination of both, she decided and nodded approvingly toward Tycho as the man bow. At least the man knew his place. "Lady... Naeterys Targaryen" she corrected him with a slight smirk on her face. "And you are Tycho Plutoris, the one that is to empty our coffers of gold and silver."

Tycho reminded her, his words crisp and measured. "We are not a charity."
The banker turned to survey the Crown Prince, his calculating eyes taking measure of the young man.
"Master Plutoris will suffice." he corrected, though offered the same formal bow he had afforded Naeterys. "My quarters will suffice, though you will excuse me if the feast is not to my tastes. I may represent an institution of the world, but as a Braavosi I am reminded that Tyroshi and Valyrians have never been our closest of friends."
