I'd rather we not do seconds but it would be awesome if you guys could help out with NPCs. Also the idea was that the main characters would all be members of a single formation, since I was expecting maybe seven people at the most...but if you all want to play maybe some people who aren't so keen on having their own dragon might like to be part of the crews of said dragon. They're kind of treated as an "Aerial navy" by the English, so each dragon has a full crew. Other positions might also open for dragons outside the main formation. I mean, Sir Francis Drake canonically has a dragon in this story, so there's Zack's idea. But yeah, I would definitely wait to see the setting info and all the stuff. I really want to steer you guys toward specific roles. After all, this is my first time ever Adminning a setting where I have to be actually involved and have a plot like this so go easy on me EDIT: Nothing is known about the American dragons aside from the Incan Empire ones and rumors. Mostly rumors. Ancient Viking folklore, stories told by Spanish sailors... I can tell you that this is the Age of Exploration and the plot is reflecting that.

I might be a dwarf with a massive overcompensation of a dragon. Named Napoleon. EDIT: North American dragons can be businessmen. I'm sorry but this is way too awesome. Varryn, American businessdragons exist in the Napoleonic era but the Elizabethan setting is presumably much too early to allow for that as the American colonisation is only just beginning in this period as I understand it. In the books mainland Europe tends to treat its dragons as a cross between dumb beasts and living weapons so it's not very likely that early settlers would "allow" dragons to become independent businessmen at this point, when there even the human settlers aren't established yet. It will be up to Visenya to say whether you are allowed to give it a try but I personally don't think you could have a dragon in business prior to RP.

So dragons are basically african slaves, except giant lizards. Are there any situations where a dragon could become more then a slave in the setting? Like Thomas-Alexandre Dumas or Toussaint Louverture, but instead of a black man, its a dragon? Hey, Morys, I had to look up those guys because I hadn't heard of them. In the books dragons are not given officer status and there's no suggestion that they were in the Elizabethan period, but their captains and other riders typically are. However, a maverick dragon is entirely possible with the right captain. Temeraire himself is very much of that persuasion, as is another dragon named Iskierka. I could say more but I won't because I'd end up citing major spoilers which isn't fair on anyone who wants to read the books. I am really struggling not to make suggestions regarding character concepts in case I accidentally release spoilers or say something that will restrict Visenya's setting and plot. I already have a vague concept of my character though

Britain is terrible when it comes to dragon rights, and so is France prior to Napoleon's reforms. I can't really stress HOW terrible dragon conditions in Britain are without spoiling later books. Elizabeth I was rather progressive, so it might not be as bad.

At least most of the British captains in the books are genuinely fond of their dragons. I guess they can't entirely help their upbringing, any more than the dragons can help accepting it.
Russia wins the award for Worst Dragon Treatment though.

Oh, no doubt. The Ottomans are pretty wretched to their dragons too.

Almost tempted to make a Dragon captain, like literally a pirate captain whose a dragon.

They're canon. Well, privateers with dragons, like Francis Drake.

Morys seems to mean a dragon on his own without any humans.
I'd really rather you not. Dragons are in a way one's second, since they have their own characters and personalities but the plot has to do largely with the human characters and there would not be much place for a dragon on their own.

I'm sure Mr. Drake and I will be great friends/rivals. Haha if my dragon is big enough can I put a pair of swivels on either side of him?

That is actually pretty likely, Zack, if you've got a larger dragon.

Alright, it isnt quite ready yet but it is well on its way. I just need to finish fleshing out the npcs and the setting. hermajestysdragons.proboards.com/ <thats it. I'd appreciate some feedback. My portrait of Liz the First is totally accurate to 1585 too PS: Kit Marlowe will be changing his name later. And I might change my name too. But hey. Those aren't important.

I think everyone else should sign up to this too! Or at least check it out. I would think it should appeal to anyone who likes dragons, the Elizabeth period or alternative history. Erik this seems like your sort of thing, particularly since I know you've read a few things set in the same era as the novels and seem to be quite fond of piracy
