So I have spent the past coupld of weeks mulling over the creation of a roleplaying site based in the world of Temeraire, which is basically a book series based on the question: What if dragons were real and how would that work in the Napoleonic wars?
I spent today building the site and working out the specifics and a plot. Anyone want to play a game set in the Elizabethan period (1585 to be exact) in an alternate history universe where there is a royal air corps? I promise not to get annoyed if you bollocks up your history. After all, half of what I am doing is just that. Plot has to do with Mary, Queen of Scots and Philip II and Francis of Anjou and also Francis Drake.
Because I love pain and I have found myself with an absurd amount of time on my hands, I am going to be your admin. Yay. Marie is going to help. Double yay.

Dibs on Francis Walsingham. I'd grab John Dee, but he'd be too similar to Orys.

You should all read the Temeraire series. It's great I was the one who recommended the novels to Visenya. Obviously you should all play the game too, once it's set up.

Well, there are still landbound people in the world And horses can go where dragons cannot.

Well considering dragoons weren't a thing until the late 1600s, they wouldn't exist during the Elizabethan Era. Problem solved.
Dibs on Walter Raleigh.

They did exist in the proper Temeraire books, which are Napoleonic. Kindof the Dragoon heyday and such.
But aaaaaaaanyway, you guys probably won't get to be canon historical characters. But you can be thoroughly related to and heavily inspired by them.
I'm kindof excited you all want to play. Also really nervous cos I wanna do a good job for you guys!

I've read the books, if you need any assistance. Well... the first few. She publishes faster than I have time to read.

Until I recommended them to Visenya, I didn't know anyone who had! Also, just so everyone knows, these dragons have 4 limbs so they are "proper" dragons.

Although I haven't read the books, I have to say that I'm very excited for both the game and to start reading.
But from what I've seen of the series.... Will dragons talk?

Dragons are sentient and learn the language that is spoken around them while they are in the shell. Some are very bright and some are really...not... Just like people

Nice!
Edit: Also, in that case... I call dibs on Eric Idle's voice for my dragon.

Sorry it isn't ready yet, guys. Instead of working on it, I ate ice cream and googled to see if any British Dukes were handsome and single.

Oh god it's the dragons game I've been dreaming of.
I love GRRM dragons but he did them wrong and he should feel bad.
Sentient speaking dragons ftw. <3

OH, That brings up the question I had.
What /types/ of dragons? are we doing generic 'RAWR FIRE FEAR ME' dragons or can we have water dragons and such?

The dragon breeds are all over the place, with each nation having dragons fairly close to their respective culture's depictions. Chinese dragons are usually considered THE heavyweights of the dragon world, due to dragon breeding originating in China and later on passing on to Rome throught the Silk Road. The REAL distinction when it comes to dragons is how they are raised and treated. They're typically as smart as humans, but they're often treated as dumb animals, (especially in Britain) which is the source for much of the conflict in the series. (Well, besides Napoleon being Napoleon.)
Basicly, dragons are written as people, but not treated as people in-universe.

So dragons are basically african slaves, except giant lizards. Are there any situations where a dragon could become more then a slave in the setting? Like Thomas-Alexandre Dumas or Toussaint Louverture, but instead of a black man, its a dragon?

I'm definitely going to have a bro instead of a servant.
Realistically(in fantasy terms) speaking it would probably want me to not die a little more than usual.

Guys, may I suggest actually looking at the setting info when it's up before making decisions? Though you can find ou about the books on Wiki if you are so inclined. Although those articles are mostly referring to the book period, there's some useful info there too.

I might be a dwarf with a massive overcompensation of a dragon.
Named Napoleon.
EDIT: North American dragons can be businessmen. I'm sorry but this is way too awesome.
