Following his meetings with Trystane and Sarella in Sunspear, Elyas flew back to Vaith. He rode into the castle courtyard on horseback, having left Ellarion outside the city as always. Looking extremely annoyed, he dismounted from his horse and made his way into the keep, leaving the horse with a servant.

He found Catelyn in the solar, talking to the head cook. She looked up at once as he entered.
"Elyas! How was Sunspear?"

He found Catelyn in the solar, talking to the head cook. She looked up at once as he entered. "Elyas! How was Sunspear?" "Terrible." He replied with a scowl. He beckoned for her to follow him away from the cook. "Trystane is more under the influence of Visenya than ever. We are to campaign against Nightsong of all places within days, and when I questioned the intelligence of his plan he saw fit to imply I was disloyal. This is madness. Once we attack Nightsong all of Westeros will inevitably be drawn into war with us. We cannot hope to win." Catelyn had rarely heard her husband so angry. "To think we risked our lives collecting those dragon eggs for them to be employed in so irresponsible a manner!"

For a long time, Catelyn said nothing. "that is most unfortunate. Why Nightsong, if I may ask? It's not for me to question the military decisions of the Martells but it cannot be an arbitrary choice."
She paused then said "They will fight us no matter where we choose to make our attack."

"Lord Dondarrion is dead, Trystane believes it will be easy to take." Elyas replied. "But you are wrong. They will fight much harder for land that has always belonged to them than for land that was but recently conquered."

"Will they? I should think they will fight equally hard," Catelyn mused. "That depends in part on the number of men they have, surely? I cannot say they do not deserve it. But where would you attack instead?"

But where would you attack instead?" "Yronwood." Elyas replied. "But it matters not. My counsel is not valued." he said the last bitterly.

"That's odd," Catelyn said with a little sigh. "What will you do, then? You won't be reckless, I hope? That could be...unpleasant for all of us."

"Of course not." Elyas replied, calming himself. "I am not such a fool I would throw my life away over a petty quarrel."

"Good." She leaned forward and kissed him. "Show them that you are the most loyal man in Dorne. Prove your valour as you have done many times before, and then Trystane will know he was wrong to doubt you."

She pressed her body against his. "I love you too. Come back safely. I know the gods will protect you."
