The Queen's Festival is formally announced for a fortnight hence, though rumors have abounded for months. It is to be held in honor of the Valyrian Goddess Zyraxes, of Love and Family. There will be four days of tournaments and feasting, as well as lesser competitions such as footraces, feats of strength and dexterity, and even a teller of riddles to test those who think themselves overly clever. There will be displays of music and song and poetry, with a lute made of pure silver to be given as prize to the best musician, and a golden harp to whomever has the most beautiful voice. On the final evening of the festival, as the sun sets, there will be a grand ball under the night sky, complete with bonfires and a display by the Spectacle of Flame, as the Pyromancers call their shows, to celebrate new marriages.
The prize-purse for the winner of the Joust is five thousand gold dragons, and two thousand for the winner of the melee. The best marksman is to receive an arrow made of solid gold as well as a Dragonbone bow, crafted in the style of the Dothraki horse riders, likely imported at great cost. The Queen's Festival is likely to draw lords and ladies from every corner of Westeros.

Knights and Lords from all over Westeros have begun to show up for the festival; the city's inns are filled near to bursting, with those neither wealthy enough to maintain a residence in the capital, nor important enough to be given guest quarters in the Red Keep. A party of several hundred Valemen arrive several days before the festival begins; Lord Arthur Arryn and his household, which includes his daughter and her husband, Lord Eddard Corbray, as well as their eldest two sons; Sers Richard and Geoffry Hunter arrived with them, sons of the Lord of Longbow Hall, as well as Ser Duncan Royce, the eldest son of the heir to Runestone, his brother Daven, who was squire to the Lord of the Eyrie, and their sister Aenor.
Lord Dickon Baratheon arrives the day after accompanied the chivalry of the Stormlands; his cousin Ser Raynald Connington, the heir to Griffin's roost, as well as the young Lord of Stonehelm and his sister. Lord Harwood Fell of Wyl arrived with them, as one of his sons who was known as Ser Harwood the Younger. The heirs to Crow's Nest and Bronzegate represented their fathers respectively, and even the elderly Lord Jasper Wylde had made the trip, with a gaggle of his unmarried grandchildren.
Lord Lyonel Lannister had been in the capital for a year, but his stepfather, Lord Jayson Lannister, the Warden of the West, arrived the same afternoon as Lord Baratheon, with his own entourage of Western noblemen. Leonard Brax the Younger, heir to Hornvale, squired for his uncle, Ser Leyton Brax, who was the lord of Deep Den by virtue of his marriage to Lady Joanna Lydden. Lord Willam Lefford was also present, despite having taken possession of Golden Tooth only a month prior when his mother died.
Only a few Reachlords were present; the Lords of Ashford and Goldengrove, both of whom were kin to Lord Tyrell arrived with Lord Harold Beesbury of Honeyholt, as well as Lord Simon Tarly and his son Ser Randyll Flowers. The Riverlands were even less represented, with only the Blackwood brothers, Lords Patrek and Axell of Raventree Hall and Stone Hedge respectively, and Ser Daemon Harroway, the Lord of Pinkmaiden arriving the day be fore the festival's start, with nobody at all representing House Tully.
Both Lords Manderly, Lord Wyman of White Harbor, and his cousin, Lord Dustin of the Dreadfort, arrived in the harbor on board a massive four-decked warship, beautifully constructed and apparently brand-new. Lord Darryn Hornwood and Rickard Karstark, the heir to Karhold, arrived by horse and immediately rode into the Kingswood to find Beron Stark, who spent most of his time hunting with Lord Lyonel Lannister and Prince Traegon.

The day before the Festival is about to begin, it is announced that Prince Maegor and Prince Traegon will officiate the festivities, while the Queen departs for Pentos on a diplomatic mission with the Lords of Sunhouse, Harrenhal, as well as two members of her Dragon Guard.
The Hand of the Queen, Lord Jaymes Tyrell of Highgarden is in command of King's Landing in the Queen's absence, sitting the Iron Throne and holding court in her name, while the small folk flock to the Tournament field outside the city walls.
