Appearance:
Daenerys is a slender young woman, toned from endless hours on the deck and water dancing practice. She is of average height and graceful in her movements. Despite being of Targaryen descent, Dany looks like her Lannister mother, with her long golden-blonde hair and gold-flecked green eyes.
She favours gold over silver and loves wearing jewelry, especially rings. She wears the Velaryon colours just as often as the Lannister ones.
Personality:
Unlike with appearance, Daenerys largely takes after her father when it comes to personality. She is charming and very generous, which makes her well-liked by nobles and common folk alike. Quick to smile and slow to anger unless rudely confronted, she has hardly ever had any serious quarrels with anyone. However, should she, or someone she cares about be terribly wronged, her retaliation could prove to be very creative, sometimes even violent. Often lost in her thoughts, Dany feels happiest with wind in her hair, either on a ship or her dragon. Despite being honest and direct for the most part, Dany has been taught by her mother to be more subtle about certain things and less naive about others. Influenced by both her parents when it comes to religion, she respects the Valyrian gods as well as the Seven, but is not overly religious. Additionally, her travels to Braavos have taught her of the Many-Faced God, which has in turn made her look at death a little differently - in some cases, like a gift.
Background:
The first child of Lord Edric Velaryon and his beautiful young wife, Myrcella Lannister, Daenerys was brought up in a loving and encouraging home. She was undisputedly her father's favourite from the very beginning, which did not change after the births of her brothers, Jacaerys and Monterys. Instead of growing up to be conceited and spoiled as most probably would have, Dany developed values that made her family-oriented and kind. She was allowed to accompany Lord Edric on his ship at the age of three, which also marked her first visit to Dragonstone. Completely awed by the huge creatures at Dragonmont, she was allowed to keep the last remaining egg from the latest clutch – all the others from this one had already hatched. It was a small but heavy one, so dark red it almost looked black. Extremely thankful, Dany clutched her egg in her small hands all the way home and slept next to it every night, much like the young Targaryens when they were given theirs. Later that year, her dragon hatched. He was a tiny maroon-coloured creature that she started calling Mith, short for Mithrax, the Valyrian god of the seas.
A couple years later, Edric sent Daenerys to be fostered at Dragonstone after deeming it the best place for Mith to grow up. She was sent there on the galley Lioness, which had been part of Myrcella's dowry back in the day. Since Driftmark and Dragonstone were so close, Dany would visit home and go on trips with her father so often that it should probably not have been considered a proper fostering. Mith benefited from the arrangement, however, growing into a suitable size for riding after a few years, allowing Dany to travel between home and Dragonstone even faster, although by that time, this volcanic island with its inhabitants felt like home as well. At 14, she undertook a slightly longer dragon-back trip with her foster-sibling and good friend, Princess Rhaena, to King's Landing.
Shortly after turning 15, Lord Edric named her the captain of Lioness so she could sail to Braavos on her own in order to find the water dancing tutor she wished for. There, she was immediately drawn to its elegance and began practicing it under the criticizing eye of an esteemed practitioner, Terys Antaryon, whom she later hired to return to Westeros with her.
For her 17th nameday, Daenerys was sent a fine slender blade, its hilt a golden lion with two small emeralds for his eyes; a custom order by her mother, forged at Braavos. A month or two later, she received a war galley named Dauntless from her father, bearing a silver seahorse figurehead as a reminder of her actual house.
