"The kinslayer is cursed." Maegor agreed flatly. "Both our gods agree on that."

"So it is sometimes said, your grace," the Hand agreed, "and that is what Prince Aegon would have been, if the knights of the Kingsguard had not moved to protect her grace the Queen from his assaults. Fear not, lad, if it is true that the kinslayer is cursed, it is not true that his descendants bear the same taint, if they took no part in his action," he added, though by his tone it was clear he was trying to convince himself of that fact as much as he was trying to convince the Prince.

He cocked his head. "And yet my mother has the Kingsguard disbanded for saving her life. A most curious turn of events." He finished his wine.

"Only two of the Kingsguard remained true, your grace, and both were we killed on dragonstone by traitors fighting under the false banners of Prince Aegon and Maekar, the Fortnight King. Ser Jon of Gaunt was executed for declaring for Maekar, Ser Moryn Stokeworth reportedly disappeared the day Maekar took the capital, and the Coldflame was killed in the air by the your lady mother and Tyraxes. I suppose Ser Symon Buckler remained true as well, but the Fortnight King tortured and killed him for it," the Hand replied. "Her grace was wise to disband an institution that had been so sullied by the actions of its members. No Dragon Guard has ever betrayed her grace."

"Let us pray they never do." The prince stated plainly. "Forgive me, Lord Tyrell. I'm sure you have much work to do." The prince rose as he spoke, leaving his empty cup on the table. "Make sure to let my mother know that I asked about all that political nonsense. I think we'd both benefit from an improved royal mood."

"I will, your grace. The Queen shall be quite pleased to learn of your growing interest in her realm, and will surely place greater trust in you for it," the Hand replied. "Have a good afternoon, your grace."

"And you, Lord Hand." Maegor inclined his head and left.
