Near the Kings Landing harbor stands a stout structure which houses the office of the Master of Ships, currently Lord Paxter Redwyne Baelon Targaryen. The office itself is richly detailed in dark woods and brass. A massive ornate oak desk dominates the room, notable for being carved from the hull of the ship of Lord Daemon Velaryon, the first Master of Ships, the same flagship which had brought Aegon the Conqueror's army to the shores of Westeros. The room is littered with naval instruments and tidal maps line the walls. A window overlooks Blackwater Bay, with a line of sight to the mighty war galleys of the Royal Fleet. Baelon has kept the office much the same as his predecessor did, though rather more cluttered and with a large, glass-doored cabinet filled with bottles along one wall.

Lord Lyonel Harroway slowly walked up to the office, and knocked lightly on the door. He waited to be admitted, and watched the ships in the harbor. He had heard rumors of the ships from Pentos, and wondered which ones were from that far off city.

A secretary sitting outside opened the door for Lord Harroway. He found Baelon sitting behind the desk, sipping at wine and reading "A History of Ironborn Expansion" by one Maester Edmure. When the door opened, he set the book down and rose.
"Lyonel! Come in, come in. What would you like to drink?"

Lyonel walked in and nodded toward Baaelon and gave the man a large grin. "Lord Baelon it is an honor to see you. And I would greatly enjoy a drink." He breathed in deeply all of a sudden. "The ocean air overwhelms the smell of shit and death the usually permeates the city. No wonder you spend so much time down here."

"It does wonders for the health." Baelon replied. He motioned for Lyonel to sit, found a glass, and filled it with the bottle of red wine he had already opened. "Something from my own vineyards," He told Harroway as he handed it over, "A little sweeter than I like, but we're working on that."

"In my own life I have found there is a moment for every flavor of wine. The tart dark reds for being scorned by a beautiful woman. The rich flavorful ones for hand balls. The sweet ones to share with your children as they have their first sip." Lyonel replied and smiled at the images of his children in his head. He sipped it and smiled. "It is quite pleasant. The sweetness is present but hardly cloying. A perfect wine to be shared between friends."

"Very well said." Baelon replied, as he sat back down behind his desk. Harroway certainly did have a way with words. "I'll have you sent a cask of it."

Lyonel chuckled and bowed his head, "I will greatly appreciate that my good friend. How fares your day?" He looked out the window into the bay and added, "Have you had any contact with those ships from Pentos I have heard whispered about?"

Baelon half-turned to the window and glanced out as well. "Not formal contact, no. But it's nothing to be concerned about, despite the workings of the rumor mill. Envoys seeking an audience with Her Grace, that's all."

"Of course that only fuels the fires of my curiosity instead of quenching them." Lyonel replied and then stroked his chin in thought. "Though I suppose it is rather obvious that they are here to speak of the danger to their south."

"That is what I would imagine, yes." Baelon shrugged. "Suppose this means that at least some of the stories of this 'Burned Rider' are accurate." He shuddered a bit. "Did you ever see the Black Dread? It's not a comforting thought, someone outside of our family riding that monster."

"It is frankly chilling." Lyonel replied with out thought. "After my injury I was never capable of controlling a dragon. You are legendary through out the realm for your own skill atop a wyrm though. If you had to fight the Black Dread how would you go about it?"

"Well, 'Legendary' may be a bit much," Baelon demurred, "But I'd do the very same thing that I did to Maekar. Kill the rider before he could get near his dragon, and then run. Not the most valiant approach, but I think the smartest one."

"I have been told he always keep a man mounted on a dragon nearby." Lyonel replied taking a drink from the wine. "I admit that seems the best plan, but there does not seem to be a way to really count on him being alone and not mounted."

"I had not heard that particular tale. In that case, numbers would seem to be our best strategy. That, or waiting for the beast to die of old age."

"I am all for waiting for the beast to die, but I rather think that we will be waiting a rather long time." Lyonel said with a wry grin. "I also doubt the man will allow us the time to finish him off."

"You're likely right. The Gods were perhaps a bit foolish, making creatures as mighty as dragons live as long as they do. But two hundred years? It's unheard of. By rights, Balerion should have died years ago, yet there he is."

"There is no doubt of that, and hopefully there he stays. I do not need any further proof of the Gods and their capricious natures." Lyonel replied shaking his head sadly from side to side.

"Indeed. When someone tries to tell me that the Gods are good and just, I cannot help but see the contrary in the fact that I, the drunken lecherous pirate, am the sole survivor amongst my siblings." He let out a humorless chuckle before changing the subject somewhat.
"The ambassadors. If they're here to ask us to defend them from this 'New Valyria', what will your stance be on the matter?"

Orys awaits his chance to speak to the Master of Ships. He keeps his hand busy writing a history of the Seven Kingdoms. He expects it shall not be completed in his lifetime, so he merely focuses on the dirty bits.

"My stance is that there are too many factors to decide on such a course at this time. I would listen to the ambassadors but if we are to have trouble to the south then that is a greater focus." Lyonel replied and grinning added. "The man who so obsesses over the distance trips on the small problems that surround his feet."

"A wise course. Dorne must be the priority. But at the same time, I would not like to conclude our matters with them, and turn to the East to find a resurgent Valyria, having freshly conquered the Free Cities and now looking to Westeros."

"I do admit that any battle with Dorne will cost us more then any battle with the free cities will cause the burned man. But the nightmare is him forgoing an attack north to instead support Dorne against us." Lyonel replied.

"You raise a worrying point," Baelon replied, "Though I do not know how likely it is. It seems as though such a move would certainly overextend the forces of New Valyria." ///////////////////////////////////////////////////////// Orys awaits his chance to speak to the Master of Ships. He keeps his hand busy writing a history of the Seven Kingdoms. He expects it shall not be completed in his lifetime, so he merely focuses on the dirty bits. A servant ushered in the Master of Flames to Baelon's office. He was standing behind his desk, staring out the window, and did not turn when his guest entered. "What can I do for you, Orys?"

"Baelon." He struggled to remember how exactly they were related, but simply could not recall. "You know... I don't think I've ever been in this room." He looks around. "Yes, I'm quite certain. Mmm... well..."
He produces a piece of paper from a sleeve. "Typically, I'd send a Wisdom to handle this, but somehow, that seemed inappropriate between kin." He plops down in a chair and began studying his scribble. "Item Number One: Does the Master of Ship have any concerns about the Guild trading outside King's Landing?" Orys stares at it and scribbles in, "...items besides wildfire."
