A large, impressive room set high in the Royal Academy's main building. A bank of ornate glass windows dominates the western wall of the room, letting in the last rays of the setting sun. A large desk of imported goldenwood from the Summer Islands occupies a central position in the room. A high backed chair sits behind it, while two smaller chairs are placed for visitors on the opposite side. The office contains the Chancellor's own private library he has collected over the years, and his desk is often covered with the remnants of some project the Chancellor is working on in his spare time. The room also contains a bar stocked with bottle after bottle of imported liquor.
One door leads to the smaller reception office which handles the Chancellor's secretarial work and announces visitors, and a second leads to the Chancellor's private quarters at the Academy.

Lord Lyonel walked slowly towards the door of the large office. He raised a fist and slowly knocked on the opulent door, balancing precariously on his cane. He carried an elegantly carved rosewood box tucked under his shoulder.

A pretty young thing announces Lord Harroway's presence to her boss, and Lyonel is promptly let in.
"Always a pleasure, Lord Lyonel," Uther smiles, setting down a Myrish lens he was examining. No less than three heavy tomes lay open on his desk. "Care for a drink?"

"I would not mind a nip of the good stuff. Assuming you stock any thing a man would deem good." Lyonel smiled easily and moved slowly to a chair. "Do you mind?" He nodded slightly to the chair with his head.

"By all means," Uther gestured to an empty chair as he himself stood and made his way to his bar. He considered for a moment, then uncorked a bottle of brown liquid and poured two glasses. He chipped shavings off of an ice block into both glasses (an expensive luxury even in autumn), then handed Lyonel one glass and leaned against his desk. "What brings you to my neck of the woods today, Lyonel?"

Lyonel lowered himself slowly into the chair and took the drink with a pleased smile. He could not help taking a sip from the drink before speaking. "This is exceptional Uther. You should not have shared such a fine vintage with me. It is very likely that I will steal the bottle when your back is turned. So watch me very closely." As he sipped he lowered the rosewood box down onto the table between them.

Uther sat back down in his chair and took a satisfied sip of his drink. "While I would never underestimate your guile, Lyonel, I do believe the advantage is mine in a footrace if you try to abscond with my liquor," Bell's eyes twinkled with amusement, then fell on the small rosewood box. "What is this?"

"You will not believe what this is, not if you guessed from today until the sun burned away every ocean." Lyonel gave Uther a small smile. He slid the box across the desk toward the Chancellor. "I was speaking with a trader from Meereen today, and he sold me this writing set. He claimed that the five quills inside are the last five ever harvested from a living Harpy, and the ink was made from the bile of a dead kraken come to rest on the beaches of Slaver's bay." He paused to shake his head almost wistfully, "Complete hogwash of course, but the feathers come from some bird I have never seen. And I did like the onyx and jet settings inside the box, so I made him an offer and purchased it from him."

Uther chuckled lightly. "It is certainly a beautiful set, Lyonel." The Chancellor lifted one of the quills carefully and examined it with a practiced eye, then set it back down in its ornate place. "Were you looking for an appraisal?"

"I bought it because it caught my eye with his understated beauty, and a good yarn. I love a good yarn, and merchants are always armed with as many tales as goods. More I would thin." Lyonel smiled, "I was curious if you could identify the actual origin of the feather though." He sipped his drink again, another pleased sounds escaped his lips.

Uther picked up his Myrish lens and took a closer look at the feather. "I do believe this belonged to a black chicken," the Chancellor said, deadpan.

"The dreaded black children? They have arisen again." Lyonele chuckled at the answer. "Well I was hoping for something a great deal more epic for I have brought that here as a gift for you. Just tell your students it is a harpy feather."

"I think I shall do just that," Uther smiled, replacing the feather and gently closing the case. "What have I done to deserve such a gift? I do find it difficult to keep track of all of my own accomplishments these days," he said with a wink.

"We have exchanged quite a few pleasantries in the past but I would not say we were truly friends." Lyonel replied. "I have come to redeem that great error. And there is no better lubrication to a new friendship besides a gift." He chuckled to himself, "Besides perhaps some spirits, but you have seen to that yourself."

"A man can never have too many friends," Uther replied, "Particularly in this city. I shall need to think of a suitably handsome gift for you in return."

Lyonel offered a small smile. His light blue eyes twinkled with a hint of mirth, "As your good friend I think it is my duty to advise you on what to give such a loyal friend as I." He chuckled lightly and leaned forward, "My son shall soon join me here in the city from Harrenhal. I would be greatly honored if he could attend some of the courses you have available here."

"It is always a pleasure to teach noble children, particularly if this one is as clever as his father," Uther smiled genially, sipping from his glass. "Would this be Edgar or young Jaymes?"

"Edgar, my heir. I hope to get him some training here, and then get permission for him to travel to Dragonstone." Lyonel replied quietly, his face tightening at the thought. "He badly wants to try as well."

"Ahh..." Uther said softly, his face sympathetic. "A dangerous business, that. I wish there was more we could do to prepare him here, but neither Scholar nor Targaryen truly knows the mind of a dragon or how they choose to accept their riders."

"I am sure he will excel. He has the blood of a dragon flowing through his veins. Yet I can not help but worry." Lyonel replied his hand tightening around the cane. "And I may even be a little envious. I had the same desire until my leg was destroyed. I will just have to take pride in my son flying higher then I could ever manage."

Uther nodded. "No doubt he will be marvelous." He gave Lyonel a sympathetic look. "Damage done to the body cannot be undone, but there are tinctures and potions, such as will ease pain in a lingering wound. If you are ever in need, it is no trouble for me."

Lyonel smiled with genuine appreciation, "These aches of mine are an old friend now. I would feel empty and alone with out them. Though I am quite greatful for your offer. I more sane man would agree in a heart beat."

"Of course," Uther smiled as though he understood. "And do let me know when your son arrives, so I can make arrangements."
