"I will," she said. "This time. Ready for our swim?" Elyas nodded, lowering his blade. "Very much so." he smiled.

"Good. I'm faster than you, at least." But she had grown up swimming and bathing in the river. She called over to a servant, ordering the lad to put away their practice weapons. The temperature was cooler now it was autumn, but the Dornish heat had so far prevailed, most days.
"Ah...if only every day could be like this one," she sighed.

Elyas was no lout himself, having grown up near a the river that flowed to East to the Yronwood as a child at Skyreach. He had not had Catelyn's advantage of such daily proximity to a river though, and she was faster than he. He allowed her to lead the way to the river. "I am happy enough that there are days such as this one." he said sweetly.

"Ah, a contented man. Now there's a rarity," she replied, grinning. "Can you stay a while, or must you go back to Sunspear soon?"

Elyas replied. "There has been very little of note occurring at court of late, and given the choice, I would much rather spend my days here."

"Anyone of sense would," she agreed. "Sunspear is a viper's pit, and bad luck as well. We have to think of the children, I know, but there is time yet before they must be introduced at Sunspear."
The river stretched ahead, gleaming blue and inviting.

"Anyone of sense would," she agreed. "Sunspear is a viper's pit, and bad luck as well. We have to think of the children, I know, but there is time yet before they must be introduced at Sunspear." The river stretched ahead, gleaming blue and inviting. While they had agreed not to speak of Visenya, Elyas felt he owed it to his wife to let her know of the offer he had received while they were talking of their children. "When I was last in the capital, Lady Visenya approached me with a "generous" offer for us to give Mya to her son in marriage. When I refused she asked whether we might consider allowing her child to father bastards on our daughter." Merely remembering the incident seemed to infuriate Elyas. "I do not want our children near that particular snake, nor those she influences."

"Nor I. She killed Quentyn, I know it. My daughter shall not be used as some brood mare," Catelyn vowed fiercely. "No, I am glad you told her no. They would have a hostage against us, then. I would rather avoid them altogether, but, if she persists, offer to foster her youngest daughter and betroth her to Lucyen. The girl is bastard born, which is a pity, but they say Trystane is her father, so that's some good in the girl, at least. Perhaps we might save the child from her mother's venomous influence. And, if not, a betrothal is not a marriage. We would have many years to find a way out of it."

Power is all she cares for, and Trystane has more than her former husband. It worries me that she will be able to influence our future Prince to such a great extent. As for her daughter, your proposal has much to recommend it, but I believe it is Trystane's intent to legitimize the girl once his mother passes to the gods. I doubt he would agree to such a proposal." Elyas sighed.

"It will be better still if the girl is legitimate," Catelyn remarked. "There would be no dishonour to our son, then. So, if Lady Visenya wishes a connection with our house, she shall take the one we offer, or none at all. As for Princess Sarella, we must find a way to keep her safe as long as possible. She's a cranky old soul, I know, but she is the only one who can stop Trystane marrying that hell bitch."

"I don't expect she and Trystane will accept, but at least she will then no longer be able to complain we made no effort to treat with her. I shall make the offer to them when I am next in the capital. In the meantime..." he nodded to the water as they neared the shore, and began to remove his tunic.

She watched openly as he began to undress. Her boots came off swiftly, then her belt.
"Trystane will not forget that we have been good friends to him," Catelyn remarked. "At least, I hope not."

Elyas nodded, still facing his wife as he sat down to unlace his boots. "That is true Catelyn, but the Targaryen has had his ear for some time now. If he were forced to choose between his lover or those who have served him faithfully in the past, I do not know if we would have cause to be optimistic. Yet Sarella still lives, so these are problems for another day." He slid off one boot and then the other before unlacing his breeches.

Catelyn didn't really want to put off her anxieties but it was too nice a day to waste. She pulled off her tunic and then her breeches. Finally, clad in nothing but her small clothes, she smiled at Elyas.
"Come on, or I'll go in without you."
She slipped off her small clothes, tossing them at random on the messy pile of her clothing, then jumped into the river with a splash.

Elyas swam out to his wife, submerging himself in the water as he did, allowing it to wash off his sweat and draw out the heat from deep within his body. "We should dine with the children later." he said, after emerging from the water near her and wiping water running off his hair from his face. "I have not seen them as much as I should have liked since I last returned from the capital."

"We can do that," she agreed. "You miss much when you are away. Perhaps I shall leave you to look after the castle and our children and go have adventures." She winked to show she was teasing. "But you;re right, our children should not find their father a stranger."

"An adventure without me?" Elyas grinned. "Then who would you save from the deadly foe?" He turned onto his back and allowed himself to float relaxingly upon the water.

Catelyn laughed. "I'm sure I could find somebody worth saving. And then I could return home the conquering heroine. Though I would certainly prefer to take you adventuring with me. Travel is so much better with a beloved companion, isn't it?"

Travel is so much better with a beloved companion, isn't it?" "And who do you propose that might be? Is there someone I ought to be jealous of?" Elyas replied lightly. "If no, then finding a worthy companion is more difficult than you are making it out to be. So I'm afraid you'd probably be stuck with me even if you desired otherwise."

She laughed and splashed him. "I can think of nobody more worthy. Lucky for you. But I should certainly enjoy rescuing a person in distress. I am not a knight from the songs, I don't need to fall in love with that person on the instant. I pray you do not have to rescue a lady, if you are worried that it should be a barrier to virtue." She poked her tongue out at him, as she often had done when they were younger, before they fell in love.

But just because you are not quick to fall in love with those you save does not mean they are so likewise inclined. And then you would be forced to do damage to another man’s groin, and you would go from rescuer to tormentor. Hardly the stuff of song.” Elyas blinked his eyes and shook the water she had splashed upon him from his face. “But if it is an adventure you seek…” Elyas had slowly been treading water toward her as he spoke, and once he drew close enough he tried to grab his wife and playfully dunk her underwater as she had promised she would do to him earlier.

Catelyn shrieked and barely managed to avoid being grasped, her skin slipping through his fingers at the last moment.
"Oh! How unchivalrous!" She cried. She splashed him again and then said with a sigh. "Oh, this is like being a girl again!"

She splashed him again and then said with a sigh. "Oh, this is like being a girl again!" Elyas splashed her back. "I thought you feared my being like a knight of the songs." he laughed. "But as I was saying, if it is an adventure you crave, perhaps you'd like to fly with me tonight?" While Catelyn was the only person to have flown with Elyas before, she did so only infrequently. Elyas had a tendency to separate his dragon from those in his personal life, as if it was a stain on his character he would prefer they not associate with him.
