Appearance:
Despite having Targaryen blood on both parents' side, Alexys does not look like one, taking after her mother in facial appearance rather than her father. She is very pretty with long dark brown hair and smoky grey eyes. Unlike her mother, however, she is slender and toned from sword practice, as well as slightly taller than Vira, almost standing at a 5'8.
She is rarely seen wearing colours other than black or darker shades of red.
Personality:
Stubborn and highly independent, Alexys always finds ways to achieve her goals, regardless of how unethical her means can get. She is an adept liar and does not place trust in other people easily. Quick to anger, prone to hold grudges. Can be proud and arrogant, and has held her mother's peasant roots against her on more than one occasion.
Background:
Born in the wilderness of the Dothraki sea in 81AL, Alexys is the bastard daughter of Vira and the Fortnight King. She spent the first few years of her life living in poverty as her mother resorted back to her peasant ways in Norvos. A friendly and good-natured child, if a bit quiet, she was loved by all the servants and their children who had a hand in raising her. She grew up speaking both bastard Valyrian and the Common Tongue, but was confused as to why she had two names, one of which a secret. After moving to Pentos, her mother Vira married a rich merchant and Alexys too adopted the old man's surname and became known as Chaya Tovar, even though she hated him and his family for the amount of attention her mother gave them. When Vira finally told her the truth about Westeros and Maekar, she developed a brooding frame of mind at the young age of 9 and swore to one day avenge her real father who had been so unjustly assassinated and deprived of a kingdom that had been righftully his, as her mother had very dramatically put it. She attended all her lessons with her tutors, becoming more and more interested in Westeros, Valyria and history, and was allowed to train in the Tovar manse's training yard with a weapon of her choosing. Since she could write just as well with both hands rather than just one, she picked up two swords, which seemed a little unorthodox, but has served her well ever since.
At 14, she visited a travelling show of mummers, complete with a fortune teller who could see a person's future by tasting a drop of their blood. At the time fascinated with dragons mainly because of the stories that reached her about the Burned Rider and Balerion, Alexys stepped into the tent to have her finger pricked and find out whether she would ever tame one. The fortune teller - a blood mage - told her almost nothing about the future, but from the look on his face it was clear to Alexys that he knew who she was. Instead, he told her of her great potential to magic and offered to teach her. Although intrigued, Alexys declined and left, the blood mage's last words being that 'no' was now an impossible option.
On her way home, she contemplated returning in order to kill the man, knowing how badly Vira would react to anyone finding out about them. She could not think about it for long, however, because soon after coming home she had to deal with the terrible consequence of her first encounter with magic - a distinct voice in her head, chilling her to the bone. A mere whisper at first, it became gradually louder and a torture for Alexys who was trying to figure out whether she had lost her wits or if the mage had placed a curse on her, to which the voice maliciously replied that it was neither, growing bolder by the day and telling her shady details about her family and household that she herself would have had no way of knowing. After a week of putting up with the madness, all the while hiding it from her family, Alexys returned to the mummers show only to find out it had left Pentos a couple days ago. Miserable and confused, she made her way to the nearest tavern and drank for hours only to be ambushed by two brutes after leaving. She of course drew her swords, but when the voice told her all she needed to do was slice open her own palm, she did so without hesitation, and watched as the two men bled to death before her, their throats sliced open from ear to ear, and the voice ringing in her head eerie and jovial.
Months later, she found that the show had returned and sought out the blood mage. If her instinct months ago would have been to put a blade on the wiry man's throat and demand to be released of the curse, then now she told him about the voice, the two men she'd killed, and another recent incident involving burning down a merchant's house, which may or may not have been accidental. To her great disappointment, the blood mage seemed scared now, but was willing to help her gain control over her powers. He told her that in the old days, the Valyrian dragonlords were known to bond dragons using blood magic, and that perhaps one day, she would too. Her training remained a secret from her family for half a year before Vira found out and had to come to terms with it. Shortly after her 15th nameday, Vira allowed Alexys to travel to Asshai with the mage, not that she wouldn't have done so anyway without permission. She returned to Pentos alone and only recently, a couple of months ago.
