Rhaena has kept a lot of her good looks into middle age, her silvery hair still lustrous, her frame still lithe and delicate despite carrying children three times, each time making sure to return to her optimum build. She countered hours sitting on a throne with plenty of exercise the rest of the time, meaning she is still a picture of both health and attractiveness, though the fresh youthful look of her features being replaced with a sharp angles, which just enhances her otherworldly appearance.
Personality:
Rhaena is still a fearless fighter, still putting herself in danger. She has a personal principal of not asking those who serve her to not do what she is unwilling herself to do, so she trains with troops, and even on occasion patrols the city. She has calmed a lot since taking the throne, not nearly so quick to anger these days, though her rage is still legendary. Her other emotions have been given a lot more free reign now, since no longer being out of control of her powers, things sometimes getting a little fiery when she feels things got particularly stressful.
She is viewed as a benevolent and caring ruler, but it is less so to the people who knows her, who know all that she does, it to maintain a hold on the city, choosing to do it through public works, and giving back, seeing her father's model as not sustainable in the long run. To those who know her, she is a calculating and to the majority of people aloof, an onset of losing almost everyone she cared about over the years, going harder and less playful through loss and the responsibility of a crown she never wanted, as well as just age.
Background:
Rhaena was Born the third child to King Maegor and Queen Rhaella, at the exact same moment her Dragon Tyraxes hatched. From a young age, she showed to be much more in keeping with what their father wanted in a royal child than her siblings, putting family first and herself second, and being an active doer than a talking about what she wanted, fitting in with the Targaryen ideal. Despite this, she never wanted the crown, setting her sites when she was younger, on being her father's ambassador east, something that never properly happened.
After the war against The Faith, she was betrothed to her brother, and their betrothal was a seemingly happy and based on mutual respect during their diplomatic mission east, but that all changed when Aegon's lover and, if rumour were to be believed, secret wife, appeared on the scene and reinforced what they had recently discovered, which was the King's Assassination.
Back on Dragonstone, while war preparations were going on against the man who was had claimed the crown, Maekar Waters, King Maegor's oldest natural child, and Rhaena's scorned lover, she hatched a plot to remove Elseyris Targaryen, her husbands lover, from interfering with their marriage by viciously murdering her over the step stones.
Upon return to Dragonstone, and confrontation with Aegon, the two of them battled, Aegon attacking his pregnant wife after hearing the news of his lover's death, with Rhaena besting the King and killing him, even though he was aided by four guards and a Kingsguard. After a dragon battle with Aegon's Loyalists on Dragonstone, Rhaena and the few loyal to her were victorious, at a heavy cost to their dragon numbers, regardless, Rhaena started styling herself Queen Regant.
In actuality, the real war would never happen, as Rhaena's childhood friend Daenerys Velaryon and Baelon Waters killed the usurper King before battles could take place, and there was nothing stopping Queen Rhaena from taking her place on the throne.
Since taking the throne, she put a number of institutions in place, forging an academy in the city to teach all levels of citizens all levels of things, from lower vocations, such as trades like blacksmiths and iron workers, to higher learning, such a history and laws and magic training, which she pushed for strongly. The Academy was built on Visenya's Hill, and was large enough to start housing students and begin working four years into her reign, but construction has not ceased since her reign began.
Other works include, creating a Valyrian temple, and Valyrian hospices in the city and outside, to give relief to the impoverished under the name of the old religion, to turn hearts and minds towards the religion of the queen, and also hosting Valyrian festivals in the city, paid for by the crown, and hosted in Trajan's Square, outwardly named for the man who gave his life in defense of his sister and Queen, but private named because it was a large impressive expanse of land that could be utilised well, but had no purpose or life of its own. which has had some success.
Other edicts she raised, were removing male dominant succession and having it go solely on age, drastically increasing the security of the Dragonmont, making all lords who rose for Maekar to hand over wards to the realm, all of whom where treated well, and searching for and hunting down those carrying the kids of the usurper, which did not go well in either case, and resulted in the death of Daenerys.
Some time in the last seventeen years she four children, a set of twins and then two singles, each pregnancy left her weaker than normal, due to her slight build, she never had child bearing hips, so she found both the carrying and birthing quite the trial.
Now she mostly concentrates on just her kingdom, thinking little of the ex queen to the south,
