Personality:
Varryn has become a nigh-brutal man during his time beyond the wall in the face of his enemies, but his friends know him to be capable of caring, and having a borderline warm personality. Any significant conflict among the wildlings in his command is rewarded with harsh punishment, with the likelihood of death, but he never gives anything that is undeserved.
Background:
snip snip
Varryn made his way north with the assistance of Aemon and crossed beyond the wall, hunted by the Nights Watch.
Upon reaching the Wall, Varryn Targaryen was allowed to cross to the other side of the Wall with one warning: Everybody beyond the Wall was deemed a Wildling or a member of the Night's Watch: And he was no black brother. Hunted by the Night's Watch and freezing nightly, Varryn survived by the skin of his teeth for several days, hunting when he could and getting closer to his goal: the Ice Dragon. One fateful day, Varryn stumbled into the wrong cave, frostbitten and starving. Confronted by an unhappy shadowcat, Varryn put the best of his training to use, calming the creature, and then eventually taming it. Two days later, the Night's Watch caught up to Varryn, but the hunters had been hunted. Ambushed by wildlings, the patrol was mostly killed and those that lived returned to the Wall. The wildlings took Varryn, tamer of the Shadowcat, to their village and nursed him back to live. Swearing his vengeance upon the Watch and those they protected, Varryn took to fiercely training with the other wildlings in the village, becoming stronger than he ever was before. In the many years since, Varryn used his strength and wit to earn the allegiance of tribe after tribe, solving quarrels, ending wars, and killing challengers. The most difficult alliance to create was with the fiercely dangerous Thenn tribe, earning their help through a combination of tests and then a marriage, taking their leader's daughter as his spearwife. She bore him three children over the years, two sons and a daughter. Sven, Varryn's elder son, is a quirky, small boy, but strongly gifted as a skinchanger. Despite his rocky relationship with his son at times, Varryn believes Sven can grow to become one of the greatest wildlings ever known. Varryn's younger son, Koda, seems to be taking on the traits of his father even in his young age. With hair the color of sand, and a tall frame, Koda has become an impromptu leader among the wildling children, leading the games they play and often ending up in small fights that leave his father proud, (at least when his wife isn't looking.) Varryn's daughter died to a fever before she was even named, on the eve of her first birthday.
