Visenya's words were toneless, even as her husband crushed her against his chest. "I was flying overhead, and then something happened, and his men killed all the Donishmen. I wasn't close enough to hear, but there was no reason to take such drastic action. And then...Daenya and Rhaegar began fighting. Then I landed and broke it up...but BAratheon and his men just leveled crossbows at me. At me! Their Queen!" Her throat tightened but she managed to keep talking.
"He refused to allow me to take my grandfathers corpse back with me to Kings Landing. He refused men to bury the bodies. He refused men to burn the bodies. He desecrated Lord Yronwoods corpse. I was forced to leave in shame and embarrassment."
Tears began to slip down her hot cheeks, leaving tracks in the travel dust and grime on her face. "I am their Queen but it means nothing to them."
"At least I have reason to think hat Rhaegar will be loyal." To me, at least, if not the crown, she added mentally.

"It will be alright love," Maekar replied, bending to kiss away the tears on her cheeks, oblivious to the dirt and grime from her journey. "Lord Baratheon will learn to his displeasure what it means to shame a Targaryen, and my Queen, no less, though I must be honest with you; I need him, and badly. I cannot risk him throwing his support behind Aegon, and he knows it full well," he added, in a tone that hinted of sadness, frustration, and buried rage.
"I am sorry about your lord grandfather," he said, pausing. He had started to say that even a Dornishman did not deserve to rot for the carrion birds, but thought better of it. "I fear that I will not be able to redress the insults done you, though I will demand that he make amends publicly for his behavior."

"Thank you. Thank you. He will pay, I can only hope you set the price high enough." She accepted his kisses, the words Baratheon had said about selling Maekar selling her to him ringing in her ears. She freed herself from his grasp and went to the pitcher and basin and began to methodically wash her face, the water slowly muddying as she dipped and wrung the rag.
"My grandfather got his burial after all. Silverwing did the honors, in the pass. All the Dornishmen, deserving or not, got to go to their gods."

That will be useful, I hope, when they get back to the capital. Were there any other notable men killed, among the Dornish, besides your lord grandfather?" He asked. "Who else did Sarella send?" He paused, realizing that she may not want to be interrogated so soon after arriving. "Is there anything I can have brought for you, love? You have endured so much for me and I would see that you have anything that you think will balm this insult." He approached her from behind and slipped his arms around her face as she washed, kissing her neck gently.

When they invited the troupe of dwarfs in to join in on the fun, that was most awesome.

Visenya frowned. She hadn't paid much attention to who else was along. "A Dornish Prince, I think? There was another man that was taken prisoner instead of being murdered like the rest of them."

Maekar nodded. "They will have gone to Blackhaven… I may have to fly there to speak to Lord Baratheon, and your brother, myself. If I do so, you will have to protect the city in my absence, though Bertram will be here to advise you," he said. "I will instruct my men that you are to obeyed without question, in all things."

She sighed and leaned her head back against his chest. "If only you had said that to Baratheon before we all left for Dorne."
Turning in his embrace to look up into his face, she added. "But be careful. I feel that the Stormlord is a wildcard. He knows we need him, and he is fully ready t take advantage of it."

The King frowned, but he nodded. "You are right. I was thinking of sending Bertram with Aerion against the Bloody Gate, and I would not leave you the only dragonrider in the city. I will speak to Lord Baratheon when he returns, but you are right that we need him and he knows it. I can only force him to do so much," he added, continuing to frown.

"It's a very delicate situation. I wish I had not let my temper take me so much, but well...I hardly knew my grandfather but he had never been anything but kind to me when I did meet with him. It was so hard to see him murdered like a dog."
She let him go, brushing loose strands of hair back from her face and wiping her eyes with the back of her hand. "But you're right. You cannot go. We must have at least the two of us to defend the city should Aegon and the rest attack."

Maekar nodded. "Two will not do much better than one, if all the dragons of Dragonstone sweep down on us, but you are right regardless," he replied quietly. "In truth, even if all six of us were here we would be hard pressed to defeat the dragons that Aegon has under his banner."

She took his hand in hers and held it tightly. "How many has he again under his command?" She tried to mentally tally everyone, but found she could not. "If only we had the sorceress. She committed treason and shameful acts, true, but she could be of use to our cause."

"She would be useful as an example, with her head upon a spike over the gates," Maekar replied with a grimace. "Trajan is in the Stepstones and Taena Storm's dragon is too small to ride, but there are ten other dragonriders, not including Aegon himself, whose loyalties he will likely claim. He'll also control access to the six unbonded dragons on Dragonstone, one of whom is Vhagar," he added.

"Perhaps she would be a good example, but I cannot help but remember how kind she was to me when I was nothing but one of the three traitorspawn. She and I had many illuminating talks, and she gave me gifts that I could never ever manage to repay her for." Visenya went suddenly pale and glanced up at Maekar as though she may have said to much. She quickly went back to discussing Aegon and his companions. "But yes, they have the advantage. If you can gain the upper hand on land, we should be able to hold our own. If only there were another Dragonbane..."
She glanced at him sidelong, now, clearly getting an idea. "Did not my brother slay a dragon? I believe I heard a rumor saying that he did..." She smirked. "Rhaegar Dragonbane. Not a name I would have ever given him when he lived here at court."

Visenya felt Maekar's body move, and she realized he had shrugged. "Rumors say Rhaegar slew a dragon in Dorne, and you did not see Vandaras, I assume? It could very well be true, but in truth, the world is better off if Daenya does not have access to a dragon if I must be honest."
"Lord Reyne has received word back from the Lyseni; they'll be sending fifty ships to join the Arbor Fleet as it passes Lys. I'll have a hundred warships when they rendezvous at Tarth, and that many with the support of a dragon, may be able to break Aegon's stranglehold on the Gullet and deal a blow to his fleet," he said. "Redwyne's ships have ballistae equipped for killing dragons at sea, perhaps he will take a few of theirs down if they fly out of Dragonstone."

Visenya couldnt help but let out a small laugh. "Yes, I am sure we are all better off without Daenya on a dragon. I am fond of her, when she is not her other self, but its easier this way. I am sorry that she had to go through the pain of losing the beast, and at the hands of my brother, but..." she shrugged. "I just hope Baratheon manages to keep her away from him. Daenya is after Rhaegar's blood."
She cringed to imagine the barbed bolts of the ballistae tearing through dragonflesh and ripping them from the sky. "I can only hope that our allies can succeed in their mission. Lys must be very intent on not seeing Aegon on the throne to give so many ships."

"Supposedly Aegon killed one of their Magisters under questionable circumstances, and burned a number of their citizens during his stay. They attempted to assassinate him in Volantis, and he retaliated by leading the Volantenes against Lys and burning half their harbor," Maekar replied. "They seemed more than happy to contribute ships and gold toward my taking of the Iron Throne."
