Horrified, Rhaella felt a terrible pain deep inside her at the sickening events. But she quickly realised she had only one more choice besides plunging downwards. She got out of her saddle and tried to climb or leap onto Cyrax, Dark Sister in hand, ready to kill Maekar.

Maekar guided the massive black dragon westward, over the Street of Steel where they fought, with the inert body of Amethyst clutched in the Little Dread's talons. They glided lower and lower, and as soon as they cleared the city wall and were out over the Tourney Grounds, Maekar gave the order for Cyrax to drop the other dragon. Despite their rapid descent, they were still at a height that the impact of hitting the ground would shatter bones; Maekar could not see the Queen detach her saddle-chains until she cleared Cyrax's massive flanks, though he would be able to see her approach long before she was within striking distance

Maekar's dally to drop the dead dragon over a safe area gave Rhaella the time she needed to detach her own saddle and leap up. She clutched the chain running along Cyrax's underbelly, hanging on as Amethyst's corpse was released. The headless dragon landed with an unceremonious crash in the stands near the tourney field. It's head had landed in the middle of a surprised blacksmith's shop in the Street of Steel.

Rhaella felt very sick but she couldn't do anything for Amethyst now. In the meantime, all she could do was attempt to climb up the chain. She attempted to climb up on Maekar's blind side and attack that way, so as to give herself as advantage.

Maekar clearly could not see the Queen dangling from Cyrax's underbelly, but as soon as Amethyst fell away, he could see that the dragon's saddle was empty; there was only one place she could be. Maekar drove Cyrax into a steep dive toward the ground and when they were only fifty feet above it he pulled the dragon sharply upward, flaring its wings outward to stop the descent as suddenly as possible.
He doubted that there was any way someone could maintain their grip traveling downward so fast and stopping so suddenly; Makaer himself would have been thrown from his saddle if he were not chained to it, and at the speed they were moving anyone who hit the ground from even fifty feet up ought to be killed instantly by the force of impact.

Though the queen struggled valiantly, she was unable to maintain her grip. She fell to her death below, Dark Sister still clutched defiantly in hand.

Maekar descends after her, dismounting when Cyrax reached the ground. He unbuckled Dark Sister's sheath from the dead Queen's sword-belt, and the buckled it into his own, before prying the blade from her fingers and wiping it clean. He examined it for a moment, and slid it into the second sheath that hung at his waist; it was somewhat ungainly, but it would do for now. He lifted the Queen's broken body and slung her across the dragonsaddle, chaining her in place so that she would not fall, before he climbed in himself and redid his own chains.
The dragon launched up into the air again, and Maekar flew swiftly for the Red Keep, driving Cyrax down again when they were over it, landing in the castle's outer bailey.
