Dragons of Westeros is set in a much earlier period to the novels, upon which most roleplay sites are also based. That being so, there are some differences in the setting. Here we will keep important facts that all players should bear in mind during roleplay.
Notes on House Targaryen
-The game takes place before the dragons died. They are currently thriving and are an important part of Targaryen life.
-Dragons can live for two hundred years if not killed in battle.
-No Targaryen may ride another's dragon. It can be attempted, but will likely end poorly for the would-be rider.
-If a dragon rider dies, a surviving dragon may accept a new rider.
-At least one dragon and its rider must always be in residence at the Dragonpit.
-Trueborn Targaryens are raised in the expectation that they will one day be able to ride a dragon of their own.
-Trueborn Targaryen children are often given their own dragon egg if a clutch is available.
-The early Targaryens act more like the Roman imperial family than medieval monarchs, acting almost as if they were gods themselves.
-Male and female Targaryens seem to rule conjointly ever since Dragonstone, though only kings are granted the regnal numbers as per Andal custom.
-The law of passing over female heirs in the Targaryen succession until all male heirs have died out has not yet been put in place (but the Andal lords seem to prefer male heirs in disputed cases).
-Female Targaryens in this period are not bound by the same rules that apply to women from the highborn Andal families. They can be bolder and less concerned with chastity.
-The king's chosen heir is always known as the Prince of Dragonstone (would be Princess if female).
-Polygamy may be possible for Targaryens.
-Targaryen bastards take the regional surnames from their non-Targaryen parent. For example, Brynden Rivers.
-Lowborn children fathered by a Targaryen and raised as a commoner are known as seeds.
-In some cases seeds may be permitted to try out as a dragon rider.
-Seeds are often born through the custom of the First Night in which a nobleman has the right to bed any lowborn maiden within his lands on her wedding night.
-A girl who births a child from the First Night custom is usually showered with gifts by her Targaryen lover.
-First Night is common practice on Dragonstone. Northmen still practice the custom as well but the Andal lords generally disapprove.
Religion
-The Great Sept of Baelor does not exist.
-The Faith is still based at the Starry Sept in Oldtown.
-The Warrior's Sons and the Poor Fellows, collectively known as the Faith Militant, have not yet been disbanded.
-The Faith Militant is currently at war with House Targaryen.
-Worship of R'hllor has not yet come to Westeros
Houses of Westeros
-Dorne remains independent from Westeros.
-Some houses may be more or less powerful than they appear in the novels.
Houses which had died out prior to the novels are still present in this timeline. This includes:
-Darklyn of Duskendale
-Reyne of Castamere
-Harroway of Harrenhall
-Tarbeck of Tarbeck Hall
-Toyne
As well as several extinct houses featuring in the game, there are houses in the novels which do not exist in this period of Westerosi history. These are:
-Blackfyre
-Clegane
-Fossoway of New Barrel (junior branch)
-Royce of the Gates of the Moon (junior branch)
-Seaworth
-Spicer
