Jaes can be found in one of the wealthier inns in the Merchant district, the innkeeper leads Maekar to a backroom with a small private bar along one side. After a couple minutes of waiting a young man enters the room and looking at the one eyed man waiting in the room walks to the bar and starts to pour two drinks. "I was told that I have a visitor, by the owner of this fine establishment. I am Gryves Azantys, it is a pleasure to make your acquaintance. Ser?" He says cutting off at the last word to try and get the man's name.

"Lord Maekar Dracaryn," Maekar replied lightly, "though I am also a Ser, and the pleasure is mine, Master Azantys. It is indeed a fine establishment, and must make your stays in King's Landing very pleasant indeed… as well as turning quite a profit I am sure."
He sipped his drink carefully, setting it back down on the table half-emptied. "I have not ever had the pleasure of traveling to Volantis; you are Volantene if I am not mistaken?" he said, half asking, and half stating it as a fact.

"You are correct, I hail from Volantis. My father sent me here on business." Gryves states taking his drink and sitting across from the man, thinking back to were he had heard the man's name before. "I believe I heard that you are to be married in a couple days time, congratulations on your engagement."

"Thank you, that is most kind," Maekar replied with a small laugh, raising his glass. At Gryves' look of recognition, he spoke again. "I am the natural son of his grace the King, Maegor, the Second of his Name, et cetera… I am a Knight Inquisitor of the Crown, recently raised to the Lord of Darkheart Keep."
"Is your father a Triarch in Volantis, that he should have business in Westeros, or a… Magister, do you call them? I learned each of the governments of the Free Cities as a boy, but I confess I cannot remember them all anymore," he replied, with another laugh, draining his glass.

"My aunt is a Triarch, my father has not yet had that honor, nor does he seem very interested in it if I may be so frank. My family business, deals in slave. It is my father's opinion that he might be able to find some contacts in Westeros that are more open-minded when it comes to having people as part of one's property." He states finishing his drink and moving to refill it.

"Well you would first need a royal decree, rescinding the ban on that practice, even if you could find willing buyers. It is illegal to own a person in Westeros, though how slavery is any different than the lives my peasants live is beyond my knowing," Maekar replied dryly, though the Volantene could see a glint of interest in his eye. "The trade of slaves brings vast wealth to Volantis, I hear."

"The wealth of Volantis may be carried by those inside of the Black Wall of the city, but it is because of the slaves that Volantis has its vast wealth. The buyer would only get in trouble for owning slaves if they were named slaves, if one were to purchase our property, they would be able to name them what ever they see fit. To me there is a little difference between your servants and my slaves, except that my slaves get paid in food, shelter and clothing, instead of money to buy their own livelihood."

"Perhaps you will be able to convince his grace of the profit in such a venture, and the mutual benefit. If not him, perhaps future kings will be more amenable," Maekar replied smoothly.

"I have heard that the current heir to the throne is a follower of the Andal's Seven, don't they tend to dislike slavery?" Gryves responds with a puzzled tone.

"Many things can change in time, and a man can never know what the next day will bring," Maekar replied. "Does your father only dealnin slaves or does he trade other goods as well?"

"My family also deals in antiques." Gryves states, "It is a side project that has flourished under the careful eyes of my father and his father before him." He adds, "And what of your interest in my father's work?" Gryves asks.

"It is wise to have contacts overseas, especially in so important and influential a city such as Volantis," Maekar replied. "I have been granted lands and a seat of my own by the King, however there is much work to be done, and work requires gold, which I am sure you know is in rather short supply in Westeros. What types of antiques does your father deal in, Master Azantys? Lost artifacts from Valyria perhaps, or treasures dug up in the east?"

"We deal in lost artifacts from Valyria, It has provided us a good portion of our wealth." Gryves states, "My father is not in the business of providing loans to people Lord Dracaryn, we have not risen so far by being lenient where we send our money."

Maekar nodded. "Unless you can be certain of repayment -and I have found that nothing certain in this word- loans are a risky business indeed," Maekar replied. "I find myself wondering; we often hear rumors of dragons far to the east. Has your father, or you, ever encountered them, or their eggs, during your time as traders?"

"The dealings that we have had with Asshai in the past has always been done through contacts. Our name may be known to certain people there, but our faces are unknown to those people, such as the lands there are a mystery to us." Gryves answers.

Maekar shrugged, not really understanding. "Perhaps you might search a little closer to home, if it dragons that you seek," he said, lowering his voice substantially.

Gryves looked taken back for an instant, but recovers quickly, "I am sure that if my father were to hear an offer about a dragon being available, then I'm sure he would be open to the idea." He states.

"Only the King of Westeros may grant one of our dragons to one he deems worthy of it," Maekar replied in the same tone, "though with debts such as the Iron Throne has, I am sure that any King would owe his gratitude to any who assisted in paying them off."

"I have heard of your current King's reputation, he does not seem like he is the type of individual that would give his gratitude to anyone, whether or not they helped him with financial problems." Gryves states.

"As I said, he will not be King forever; the future is ever mutable, and highly dependent on the actions of men," Maekar replied. "And your father? Does he give his gratitude to those who provide him with a worthy bargain?"

"My family has always been gracious to those who come to us for help, as long as they are ready to provide a bargain or favor should we be in need of one." He states.

Maekar's voice dropped even further, and the Volantene had to strain to hear it. "And for a dragon's egg, if you were to find one, what bargain would you make?

Gryves leans back in his chair slightly, "I would have the person name a price. From there if I found it acceptable we would have a deal, if not I would negotiate to make it more worthwhile for me." He states calmly.

"Eighty thousand of our gold dragons," Maekar murmured, producing one so that Gryves could be sure of their size and weight, "and I will make it happen within four turns of the moon."
