Former Knights Inquisitor: {Ser Alaric Corbray}, b. 39 AL c. 56 d. 72 AL (assassinated by crossbowmen near Oldtown, replaced by Ser Maekar Dracaryn) Dragonrider: Vhagar {Ser Daeron Targaryen}, b. 32 AL c. 56 AL d. 75 AL (captured and killed in an ambush near Stone Hedge, replaced by Ser Trajan Waters) Dragonrider: Caraxes {Ser Jory Dragonborn}, b. 2? AL c. 56 AL d. 80 AL (killed in an attempt on Maegor II's life, currently unreplaced) Dragonrider: Arrax
'Blackhand' Ser Alaric Corbray was born Alaric Stone in 39 AL the bastard of Lady Rhaena Targaryen, whose husband was Aurane Velaryon the Master of Driftmark and Lord of the Tides, and her lover, Ser Alyn Corbray, who was the brother of the Lord of Heart's Home. Alaric's birth caused a great scandal in Driftmark, when he was born with a mop of dark hair and emerald green eyes, in clear contrast to Lord Velaryon's apperance, and the appearance of the children Rhaena had already borne him. It is said that it was only by the intervention of King Aenys I on his daughter's behalf, that Lord Velaryon did not have the Lady Rhaena and her infant son thrown into the sea; that and her dragon Dreamfyre, which roosted in one of High Tide's inner baileys. Alaric was knighted by Lord Corbray at sixteen, in the year 55 AL, and when he tamed the great dragon Vhagar six months later, King Maegor I declared him a trueborn Corbray, and officially legitimized the young knight. The following year, in 56 AL, a series of assassinations and treasons spread like wildfire across the realm, orchastrated by the High Septon and Ser Hector Dragonbane, prompted the King to create a new office; the Knights Inquisitor of the Crown. These black cloaks were the opposite of the Kingsguard, working in the shadows and following any and all commands given by the King without hesitation.
Ser Alaric Corbray was the first man to whose shoulders a black cloak was pinned, and he quickly gained a reputation as black as his cloak. Maegor the Cruel had many enemies, and he often sent his Inquisitors to deal them justice. Alaric Corbray became known as a rather anomolous knight; it was said that never in his life did he fight a man who was not armed and facing him, however he almost never dealt his opponents a clean death. For nearly twenty years Ser Alaric served the crown, unfailingly performing his duties and eventually becoming so feared that taverns would empty in seconds when he stepped into them, and the most famous and bravest knights in Westeros would piss their pants when he approached them. He was ordered to accompany Prince Maeron in his attack on Oldtown in 72 AL, but Ser Hector Dragonbane recognized the threat of Vhagar and acted accordingly; if the hoary old bitch had been allowed to enter the battle things may have gone differently, but when the army drew near to Oldtown a squad of Poor Fellows with crossbows sprang out of hiding and pincushioned Ser Alaric with bolts as he patrolled the army's perimeter. They were cut down within half a minute, but the damage was done; Vhagar was riderless and eventually driven back to the Dragonmont, and when battle was joined outside the walls of Oldtown several days later a humiliating defeat was dealt to the royal forces at the hands of the Dragonbane. Replaced by Ser Maekar Dracaryn in 72 AL
'Daeron Ironheart' Daeron Targaryen was born thirty-two years after Aegon's Conquest, one of the many great-grandchildren of the Conqueror, and like his siblings and cousins, he was given a dragon-egg at birth, which hatched into a spindly dragon with scales the color of blood, and ebony claws and spines. He named it after the Valyrian goddess of Sky and Air, Caraxes. He was the eldest child of Prince Gaemon, who was the second son of Prince Maegor, who was the Conqueror's own second son, and when Maegor ascended to the throne in 42 AL, his grandchildren became significantly more important quite quickly. Daeron was given to Lord Lucas Baratheon as a squire, and he was knighted at the age of nineteen by Lord Baratheon himself after he distinguishing himself in battle against rebellious Stormlords and the Warrior's Sons that fought beside them. He earned the moniker 'Ironheart' from the men he led for his merciless executions of each enemy captured, and it was said that the Poor Fellows knew Caraxes as 'the Crimson Death', whispering the dragon's name in hushed and fearful tones.
In 56 AL, when King Maegor made the call for able Knights to serve as his Inquisitors, Ser Daeron stepped forward eagerly, and was the second man to whose shoulders a black cloak was pinned, after Ser Alaric Corbray. Ser Daeron proved to be an expert tracker, and excellent at disguising his identity besides, so his skill at ferreting out traitors was unparalleled. It was he who discovered a plot in the Red Keep to slay the King in 68 AL, and he deceived the conspirators, some of whom were on the King's own council, into meeting with him in a place where they could be seized and publicly tried and executed. He hunted traitors in each of the Seven Kingdoms, though his harsh methods, and willingness to kill anyone who impeded his 'investigations' in any way, earned him great enmity. He was lured to Stone Hedge in 75 AL, by a meeting of supposed conspirators against the King; they were ready for him, however and what was supposed to be four disgruntled Riverlords meeting with their men turned out to be half a hundred Warrior's Sons and three times as many Poor Fellows. After a fierce fight they captured Ser Daeron, wounding Caraxes and driving the dragon away while they tortured the royal Inquisitor to death over the course of several days. Replaced by Ser Trajan Waters in 75 AL
'The Dragonborn' Jory Dragonborn was a man at arms in the household guard of Prince Maeron, when he was yet the Prince of Dragonstone. VACANT
