Yeah, I thought I'd hate that version for being way too tall and thin, but the actor really sells it. Without spoiling too much, he reminds me of the Danny Devito version a LOT. And I never thought anyone would ever do psycho Penguin again. Him and Falcone are my two fave baddies thusfar.

I don't think a single Npc was black or white I don't know, I thought that a lot of the characters Daenya met in the Summer Isles were pretty black.

I haven't watched any of Gotham, but a friend was telling me that he really liked it so I'll check it out this weekend probably. I'm alright, I spend all my time at school or my office, which is decidedly not awesome. I've got class 4 nights a week from 5:30-8:30, so I generally get home around 9:30 every day. It kinda sucks, but in December I'll never have to take another class again... until I start a Master's program... I hate life sometimes. How are you? Haha welcome to the illustrious Masters club. What are you getting it in? My schedule has been pretty rough the last few months too. Work from 8-5 then LSAT class from 6-10. Finally took the test last week and working on apps now. Seeing the Eagles tonight and Tom Petty Tuesday, so things are looking up.

I completely forgot that this book is coming out at the end of this month! So excited! Yes! I managed to get it for an amazing price which makes it even better. Check out Not a Blog. I want the dragon car! Even though I don't drive and have nowhere to put it! I am also super excited about Dragon Age: Inquisition coming in November. 21st November for me but I get to preload on the 18th. And this year I am again doing Nanowrimo in an attempt to get back into writing while RP land is quiet.

I'm laying the over/under for someone proposing to start a new Westeros game at three days after the WoIaF comes out.
Also, I don't actually know how sports betting works, so I'm probably using "over/under" wrong.

Erik, that had occurred to me as well. Someone may need to kick me if the book makes my brain goes into planning mode. I really want to be a player next time but I do have a tendency to get over-excited by random RP ideas.

Yes! I managed to get it for an amazing price which makes it even better. Got mine ordered. Hopefully Winds of Winter comes out sometime next year as well. I'm sure we are all hoping for that. GRRM said in an interview a few months ago that he was cutting down on his public appearances to get on with writing because he is for some reason unable to write when he's travelling. I'm sure he has to do a certain amount of publicity for TWOIAF. So my hope is that he will get cracking on it in any free periods this year and as much as possible next year too. I know he skipped out on writing an episode for series 5 in order to have more time for TWOW. So fingers crossed!

Some may be in Volantis but the only ones we know for certain are Targaryen and Velaryon. I will actually be a little sad if my vision of old Valyria is nothing like GRRM's. I don't know if anyone will be interested but just in case, I started a writing blog yesterday and posted some random thoughts as I am hoping it will help me get back in the zone with Nanowrimo coming. I'd be really grateful to anyone who wanted to take a look.

I see to recall someone on here wanted to try Dragon Age: Origins but couldn't get it at the time. I can't remember who said it but I've seen that the game is currently free on Origin if anyone who plays on PC would like to try it: www.dragonage.com/?sf31887626=1#!/en_US/news/dragon-age-origins-on-the-house?utm_campaign=da-social-na-ic-fb-social-na-ic-fb-on-the-house-prev-site-ramp&utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&sourceid=da-social-na-ic-fb-social-na-ic-fb-on-the-house-prev-site-ramp&cid=28825&ts=1412788978311 This looks like the standard edition, not the Ultimate (which comes with the DLC and the Awakening expansion).

But I'm pretty sure that the Ultimate edition is free on Origin (EA's Steam copycat) right now. Aranya, you were swooning over Dragon Age's graphics, if I recall. Which is ridiculous, but whatever.

But Origins has great graphics. I was blown away the first time I played it. I posted because I saw the Origin ad by chance and remembered the topic coming up here before. As I already have the Ultimate Edition, it hadn't occurred to me to check Steam's prices. Looking at it now, it's not free on the UK version of Steam anyway so I would certainly never have known that! I like Steam better than Origin for the most part, but the UK prices are higher in comparison. Stupid VAT.

Whose turn is it to admin? I am not up again yet, right?
What we need is some kind of set up that doesn't call for admins. Cause we are super unreliable.
Maybe some kind of commune? Where all of the proletariat get a vote.
Or like where we take turns. And admin for a month and then pass the baton to the next guy.

Well I fail at Adminning, obviously. Too much anxiety and just never get started. Pray forgive me :/
Just preordered the Worldbook, though. Ready to dip my toes in once again to the GRRM universe.

I'm sure once the worldbook comes out we'll see a slew of new games inspired by it. Smith makes an excellent point though that we should brainstorm a proper solution to our admin problem before then. The duumvirates historically seem to have worked the best, but only until one of the admins becomes otherwise engaged or burned out. We definitely need a way to tag folks in or pass the baton, as the injection of fresh blood and ideas regularly should keep things from getting stale or one person working themselves to death for the benefit of everyone else.
Maybe do admin teams of two where one member switches out each month. So let's say it starts with Smith and Stranger in January. In February Stranger would step down and return to being a player with a randomly selected member of potential admins (or just draw lots from the entire player base) stepping up, let's say Marie. Then Smith and Marie would admin all February, with Smith stepping down in March and Felix stepping up to admin with Marie. That way you always have someone from the last admin partnership to fill in the new admin stepping up. It also makes sure the entire community takes responsibility for the game, rather than one or two. And if one admin has to bow out for personal reasons, there will always be one waiting in the wings to take the reins.
For the reason that everyone is adminning at some point, it means we'd also have to pick a setting in which we're all generally on the same team to prevent OOC knowledge being used against players once an admin steps back down. Something in the vein of Bloodgrove or Bloodfeud where we're all a member of the same family or working toward bettering a group. Once again, I'm sure the Worldbook will sort out when and which family. We can brainstorm for ideas once the book comes out.

I've been on RPs in the past where the only role of the admin was to approve new characters and keep things on the straight and narrow. To be fair this was long ago and didn't involve "our" group but it was certainly possible back then. In those games there was no need for an admin to drive the entire plot as usually everyone chipped in with their ideas. Could we maybe do that some time? We have got so used to games with the major plots decided by 1 or 2 people plus one or two that I think we have lost a little of the impulse to drive our own plots. Yet sometimes the player created plots have worked very well. In games where the admins haven't been around much we've managed to shift for ourselves. The problem is that when the admins are most visible, it's so easy to be dependent. Zack, your idea would be great if it involved short term plots but not with long term plots. As you know, I am not a fan of sharing specific NPCs. Other people may be fine with it but it's not something I personally like doing. I would suggest that nobody asks me to admin anything in November because of Nanowrimo I really want to get back into good writing habits and maybe actually get something finished (and published!) And also Dragon Age: Inquisition is out next month. Someone else's turn to admin next! On a side topic, I am reading GRRM's Dreamsongs as it's been a while and I don't think I finished it before. I really loved The Way of Cross and Dragon and I'm now on A Song for Lya, which is every bit as fascinating and creepy as I remember!

TBT I never cared for having admins due to the fact that their unreliability could and usually did kill games. It's far too much reliance on one part of the system, with no failsafes to keep the game running. Something more player focused where we all pitch our ideas/plots or just agree as we go should be better than having a plot lain out with one driving force. The simple amount of ignorance most players had for the big plan made it to where even if the players wanted to continue when the admin(s) quit, you couldn't without completely remaking a plot or trying to run with it from that point on, like how Crew failed.
TLDR: I want a democracy not a monarchy, like everything good.

It is weird Zach when I was thinking about the system I came up with almost the exact same thing. But with the additive that the previous admin and the next admin both being like assistant admins.
Though I think a schedule would be better then random draw. That way people could prepare.

Not to say they're hideous by today's standards, but we have come a little ways since then. The admin rotation idea is kinda interesting. There's an RPG that should be getting published soon (I hope, fucking kickstarted that shit so long ago) called Red Aegis that uses a system like that as standard. In that, you're each playing different clans over the course of thousands of years, and the GM-ship rotates between the players for each era.

That's a good idea. It seems fairly practical as there would be continuity for each era but then nobody would feel like all the responsibility was on them.

Lemme see, it got funded August last year. I'm not worried about getting burned, though, they've been real good about putting out updates and beta manuscripts. Just taking a little longer than planned.

Haha great minds, Smith.
Schedules do make more sense as we can prevent potential admins getting a month where they're swamped. I only suggested drawing lots as a way to ensure no one avoid contributing and we don't get any of the awkward "I don't want to admin with so and so" situations. Then again, there are some admin styles that just don't mesh well together. Marie and my styles could not have been more different, which was a pro and con.
In an ideal world of course admins wouldn't be needed, but conflicts do arise on occasion. Someone needs to be around to handle those moments or the drama can risk derailing the game as it did on occasion in dragons. Otherwise I'm all for player initiative and folks driving their own plots.
Something like the green ronin system would work well, where instead I long overarching plots you have chapters where you can roll for events that effect the house each month.
