"I will not be held responsible for you trying to get anyone onto the back of Tyraxes," Rhaena said, knowing that would result in the poor soul being a head shorter.

Laena remarked "I could not take anyone on Vermilion either. He is a cranky soul. But you may certainly try with that fat beast of yours, Aegon. What kind of servant do you think we need? A food taster, perhaps? We may hire a translator in each individual city, it seems to me. That would be less costly than hiring one and having to arrange their passage."

"I was thinking a guardsman of some sort, given the Lord Commander's earlier worries. I would take an interpreter if I thought I could find one who could speak seven different languages, but as that seems unlikely I suppose we will have to rely on the locals," Aegon replied.

"One guardsman will not be a great deal of use. We would do better to hire mercenaries if need be."

"One guardsman will not be enough," Aegon agreed, "No doubt we will have to hire mercenaries. But he will be better than nothing, and more reliable than a mercenary."

"Then you must do as you see fit in that regard, Aegon," Laena replied.

"We should take the sorceress," Brandon suggested after a long moment of thinking, "If she speaks the Eastern languages, and I believe she does."

"The Qartheen? I doubt the king will let her out of his sight," Laena grumbled. "She'd likely try to flee."

"Then perhaps one of the foreigner traders in King's Landing could be hired, or we could hire one when we reach the Free cities, though I'd rather have one we can trust then one we purchased." Brandon replied.

"I am not at all sure we can trust that woman," Laena remarked, quietly. "I would sooner trust a foreign translator in each individual city. The blue haired woman is no friend of mine."

"As you like then," Brandon replied with a scowl, "I just didn't see the purpose in renting when we already have one of our own."

"She is dangerous. It will be best to leave her behind," Laena mused. "I would like us to make our preparations so that we may leave soon."

Brandon would have traded two sorceresses to get rid of the dowager, but didn't bother to comment. "I can be ready within the hour." He said simply.

"I can't," Aegon replied, "But I will be ready by first light tomorrow."

Laena nodded. "First light will serve." She looked around the group. "Is there anything else to discuss?"
