A small set of rooms that Baelon favors when he visits the Red Keep.

Baelon returned to his suite after his meeting with the King, all smiles. "I have good news, darling." He called to Arwyn from the antechamber, as he poured himself his first glass of wine for the day.

Arwyn looked up from her sewing. It was hard to get out of the habit of a lifetime and she wasn't used to having idle hands, so she was sewing a device on a tunic for him.
"Yes, my dear? What is it?"

He took a sip as he walked in to sit down across from her.
"I've spoken with the King. My plan to go hunt pirates, he approves wholeheartedly. It should be profitable enough to get House Cuy back on its feet."

Arwyn let out a squeal of horror and dropped her sewing in her lap. "Baelon! You can't do that! It's too dangerous! You know I want my house's fortunes to be restored, for the girls, and for our own children, but..pirates? Are you sure?"

Baelon reached a hand out to her knee, trying to comfort her. "I've survived a decade of war and before that, being a pirate myself. I'll be fine, dear. And there's no need for me to leave right away. I told him I would wait until you are with child." He shrugged. "So, should the worst happen, at least there will be an heir."

She hugged him impulsively, with a show of feeling she would never have allowed to be seen in public. "Thank the gods! I thought you meant you would be going in a couple of days. I'm getting used to Kings Landing, but it still makes me nervous. At home, I knew everything and everyone, and I had to be strong after Father died. But here I am just another woman. Men look at me and I wonder what they would do if you were not here to protect me." She let out a nervous giggle. "I suppose that means we shall have to try harder."

Baelon laughed, tilting her chin up with his free hand and kissing her. "I do like the sound of that," He told her after their lips parted, "And you should not worry about other men. They'll not dare do anything unseemly. But, if you wish to return to Sunflower Hall when I leave, I would not mind."

"I probably should. It's my home, and my people may need me, and it will be better if our first child is born there." She was quiet for a moment, thinking. "Would you mind very much if our first is a girl? Sons inherit before daughters in the Reach, of course, but...." She trailed off uncertainly. "My father always loved us girls, but I know it's not the same for some men."

"I...would prefer a son. It's better that the eldest be male, really. More likely that they'll be of age when it comes time to inherit, after all." He ran a hand through her hair. "But I will treasure any child we have, Arwyn."

She nodded. "I thought so. It doesn't matter, I was just curious. While you are here, could we look for betrothals for the girls? I will be so much happier if we have some allies, and the girls each have a secure future."

"Yes, yes of course," Baelon replied, "I do need to speak with Daenerys Velaryon about using some of her ships, and it occurs to me that she has a pair of younger brothers. One of them might do nicely."

"Oh. Yes, I have not either of them but I heard one of them is squire to the king himself. I am sure you know best in this, Baelon. You know far more people at court than I ever could. Will you speak to Lady Velaryon about this?" She smiled winningly.

"Yes, of course. I'll go to her on the morrow. Assuming she hasn't already left for that silly diplomatic tour that I've been hearing about."

"Oh yes. I'm not sorry nobody asked us to go," Arwyn confessed. "IHow is Seaskimmer? Is he healing well?"

"Yes, quite well. It seems as though he's flying with almost no pain now. I almost hate to take him into danger again, but he loves it. Same as I do."

She looked sadly at him. "I cannot understand that. I wish I did, but I hated growing up with the war. I know you're going to go, so I won't beg you not to."

"It will all be for the best, dear. I'll not be foolhardy. And what pirates can match a man with several ships and a dragon with him?"

She made herself smile, though she certainly didn't feel like it. "I would not care to quarrel with a dragon. Um...could we hire some extra guards, when I do go home? Mercenaries, perhaps. The garrison we have now is so small."

Baelon considered it for a moment. "Yes. Yes, of course. There should be plenty of folk returning from the war who know how to defend someone. But be careful. The Faith Militant have not given up entirely. They may target you because of our marriage."

Arwyn shivered and her tone was unusually harsh. "If any dare cross my lands, they deserve to die. My family suffered much at their hands. But you've more money than me at present, so..." She lowered her eyes. "I will need to spend some of it on those guards."

"Certainly. And if you need anything while I'm gone, write the Queen. She likes you, she'll help."

"I will. I think everything will be alright, but I learned the importance of planning for the worst when I was a girl. I cannot be careless now." The look she gave him indicated that he should do the same.

"I shall endeavor to become a care-worn worrywart, my dear. But we cannot expect it to happen all at once." He tilted her head up and gave her another kiss. "Now get out of that dress. We have heirs to make."
