The Great Hall is a large chamber big enough to seat a thousand guests. Benches and long tables fill the floor, with plenty of room for servants and guests to move about, while a raised dais boasts an ornate table and chairs for the royal family and their most honoured guests.

Daenerys made her way to the great hall on a rainy morning when court was being held. She was not a frequent visitor, having only been around for a handful of times. Although mostly there to mingle with various nobles, she often kept an eye on the king and his verdicts as well.
She was wearing a lavender dress that day, her golden hair falling to her covered shoulders in lazy ringlets.

She saw a young man enter, someone who was vaguely familiar to her from Dragonstone, though he had been a stableboy then. Edmund Waters had dark hair and a scruffy beard and his clothes were good wool and leather, though on him though he seemed uncomfortable in them. He glanced uneasily around at the crowd and then his eyes met Dany's and he grinned at her, openly admiring her body.

Daenerys smiled lightly, not breaking their eye contact, and beckoned him over.

He swaggered over to her and bowed jerkily. "M'lady. I know I've seen you before. Weren't you raised on Dragonstone?"

"I was," she admitted, and gave him a measuring look. "From a stableboy to a member of the royal court?" she asked, rather impressed. "I assume you are a Targaryen bastard, then?"

"Aye. Edmund Waters. My father was Lord Valarr of Massey's Hook, though I never met him." He shrugged as if it made no matter. "I always dreamed of a dragon, so I left the castle and went to Dragonmont. This is where I belong." He grinned. "I like the Dragonpit. I can drink in peace there."

"He was one of the better ones, I think," Dany replied with a small smile. "Oh, so you managed to tame a dragon? Which one?"

"Aelyrion. He has gold scales. I had never seen anything so bright in my life." He grinned. "And I was just a stable boy a few months ago. How things can change. But you won't know about that, I expect. You're a highborn lady, almost a princess. Don't you have a castle of your own?"

The name rang a bell. "Prince Aegon's dragon, the one that refused to bond with him," Dany said more to herself than to him, quite surprised. "They can indeed. Sometimes for the better, as you have witnessed. I do, yes. On Driftmark," she added, only now realizing that she had not introduced herself, but assuming that mentioning her seat would give him the needed hint. "Did you decide to move to King's Landing then, Edmund?"

"I had to do something with Aelyrion," he said. "He took me to Kings Landing as if he knew it was where we were meant to be. I didn't want to be a rogue dragonrider. I like it well enough here. I could hardly live in a cave on Dragonstone forever."

"Surely you would not have to live in a cave," Daenerys began, "there are houses there, you know. Perhaps you would even get a room in the keep. Are you staying vigil at the Dragonpit then?" she inquired since he had mentioned something about drinking there earlier.

"Aye. I like it there. It's freedom. I can do what I want. I stay there when I'm not out in the taverns. I like it far better than I did being a servant on Dragonstone. Though some whore seems to be using the Dragonpit to service her customers, lately. I've never quite got around to catching her, but I intend to, one day. I bet she'd give her services to a dragonrider for free." He winked. "But I know you're a highborn lady so I'll say no more about that. I've a good life here, I think. I've everything I could wish for."

The whole story seemed a little bizarre to Daenerys. "A whore at Dragonpit?" she asked incredulously, raising an eyebrow. "How would one even get in - are the gates not closed to non-Targaryens?"

Edmund shrugged. "I suppose so. But it's got to be a whore and her customers, because who else could it be? Maybe she gives the guards her services to free, so they let her in. I've never met her, anyway. It can't be one of the dragonriders, they're all highborn ladies like yourself. No lady would stoop to that."

Dany opened her mouth to agree but stopped when it dawned on her that there was also this peasant from one of the parties. Ignoring that thought, she smiled. "I am sure you are right. Now, I understand that living in the Dragonpit is a nice change from what you are used to, but how do you feel about adventures and opportunities?" she inquired.

"My last adventure turned out well, so I wouldn't mind giving another a try. Might as well," he said. "What did you have in mind, m'lady?"

"Well, there is this plan about hunting pirates. I would go myself, but alas.. there are other things I must attend to. Lord Baelon is going and I am sure he could use able men," she said. "The aim is to take over the ships unharmed, of course, but I am sure a couple of dragons would make the chase a lot easier."

"I can go, if you think Lord Baelon will accept me. I've never met him," Edmund replied. "I'd get a share of the profits if I went?"

"I am sure he will appreciate your help," replied Dany, smiling. "Oh, of course. You could even move out of the Dragonpit. Buy a house in the city, perhaps?"

"Mayhaps. Not sure what the likes of me needs with a house, but we'll see. I'd like a better axe, for sure, and some proper armour. And I've a fancy for the best Arbor wines. I want to see if it's as good as they say." He grinned at her. "Tell me about Lord Baelon, m'lady.."

"You both have strong liking for wine and women.. you will get along wonderfully," Dany replied, smirking. "He is a capable commander at the sea and I am sure you will appreciate his sense of humour."

"That's good enough to me," he said. "But It's a shame you're not coming, m'lady. I'm sure Lord Baelon ain't as pretty as you."
She saw desire written in his eyes, though he was too used to being a servant to push his luck with her.

Dany laughed softly and gave half a shrug, one hand rising up to toy with her hair. "Or perhaps you could keep me informed in between your battles. Distances are nothing when you have a dragon."

"Perhaps I could, m'lady. Where will you be, if you're not to go with us?"
