Aemon takes his bag of rocks and following the knight inquisitors lead, mounts his own dragon and whistles for Azuria to take off. Aemon leads Azuria in a slow spiral upwards to the maximum distance that she can fly to try and gain enough altitude to be out of the range of the ballista and the giant steel dome that had moments earlier been the downfall of Vermax. After the steady flight upwards and the city beneath him being a large speck on the ground, Aemon has Azuria turn towards the glint on the ground that marked the steel dome on the top of the Hightower. Once in a position flying over the dome Aemon takes the bag and leaning over Azuria's neck he upturns the bag of rocks to fall down trying to get the rocks to hit the Hightower and the anti-dragon killing machines in hopes of damaging them. {Expert Dragon Handling] From such a height, it was largely left to the gods whether any of the rocks would hit their mark. Most missed the mark entirely, their colossal force only sending up great splashes when they landed in the Whispering Sound. Only three of the twenty rocks landed anywhere near the dome itself. One took out a ballista along the ramparts, sending up a shower of useless cogs as the force of the rock caused the nitroglycerine bolts inside to combust from the impact. Another split the head of a renown knight, a Chapter Champion of the Warriors Sons. The stone brought an unceremonious end to the illustrious warrior's career, nearly splitting him down the middle as it drove through his skull. The last hit a portion of the steel dome on the seaborne side, awkwardly warping one of its flanges to limit the visibility of the Father's Fist when firing level towards the sea.

After releasing the rocks Aemon begins his descent back down to the army, on his way down he tries to make out some of the damage that he had done and was able to see a missing part of the battlements, as well as a slight bend in the light shining off of the steel dome. Aemon takes his time descending from the sky and uses caution to not enter the firing range of the weapons within Oldtown. Once on the ground he looks over to the burning ruins of the guardhouse as well as the rest of the dragonriders who were present in the army camp.

Aegon rides back, sliding off his horse as it comes to a stop, having no intention of mounting it again. He sees Dany dismount her dragon, setting the insensate Rhaegar on the ground. "Find a healer," Aegon orders a nearby man-at-arms. He looks at Dany and Daenya, who had been in spitting distance of the Hightower's enormous dragon-killing weapon. "Report what you have seen."

Maekar arrives a minute or two afterward, the gatehouse still burning with a greenish-orange flame. He strode over to Aegon and Daenya, as the latter was explaining what she'd seen above the Hightower.

A maester and a packet of smelling salts wakes Rhaegar up quickly enough. He has not discernible injuries, other than a ringing in his ears.

Aegon listens in silence as Rhaegar, Dany, or Daenya reports on the allocation of men and weaponry in the city, as well as the specifics of the fearsome defenses of the Hightower itself. "They have apparently discovered a way to transmute whale oil into some form of explosive," Aegon stated his own information. The strange properties of the enemy substance made Aegon ruminate on their own wildfire. He turned to a pair of runners. "Go to our siege engineers and maesters, and tell them that any man who can devise a system of lighting wildfire upon impact from a great height will receive one hundred gold dragons."
"In the meantime, the King's Justice's substitution of rocks will work adequately. I want that harpoon smashed. No one flies lower than Aemon did." His eyes swiveled next to Maekar. "Maekar. Explain your purpose." Aegon's eyes were fixed on the green flames atop the gatehouse now.

"Fire and Blood," he replied. "That gatehouse will burn well into the night and its defenses are melted to slag and our troops see that our dragons still have teeth."

At the order to emulate Aemon's tactic, Elseyris finally put on her helm, taking a deep breath, in an attempt to steady her nerves. She hastily strode over the area to find suitable projectiles. The rocks she selected were fewer, but much larger than the ones Aemon had chosen. She reasoned that, perhaps, they would allow for greater accuracy and damage, if she timed the drop correctly.
Swinging herself up into Nenyan's saddle with her improvised weapons, she took one last glance at the others on the ground, before launching into the air, her eyes fixed on the tower. Nenyan's pale wings beat hard, as he ascended in a wide helix, to the same altitude from which Aemon had attacked the dome.
Once they were high enough, Elseyris maneuvered Nenyan so that she could release the rocks over the dome. At the calculated moment, she spurred him forward, leaned over to view her target, then threw the entire load down towards the dome as hard as she could, quickly swerving Nenyan away again, just in case she had not flown high enough, and needed to make a quick escape.

"It will serve our purposes," Aegon said. He had explicitly left Maekar in command through the parley, after all, though he had not expected him to begin the attack. "No more are used without my orders." He considers. "If we drop three or four in the back ranks of the enemy forces, it will force them to advance away from their siege on the walls, and disorganize them against our own attack."

Only one of the five rocks hits, taking a sizable chunk of the battlements and sending a few men too close to the edge tumbling over the 800 foot drop to the rocks below.

"I was thinking the same thing. We must first destroy the army before we can crack this nut, and we hardly have supplies for more than a week, before men will begin to starve and desert," Maekar replied. "I saw an opening, with their so-called 'Father's-Fist yet to reload, and took it, though you have my apologies for not asking leave first."
"If we drive their men forward so at least the front ranks are out of range of those bolts, our heavy horse can slice through them like a hot knife through cheese."

Cursing her misses, Elseyris brought Nenyan back down to the ground in a dive, barely waiting for him to come to a stop on the ground before jumping down from the saddle, and angrily gathering more ammunition to repeat the process.

"They have countermeasures on the ground. Caltrops, ditches, and the like. But the fight should still be in our favor, particularly with dragons in the mix," Aegon said. "Though to drop our wildfire with any accuracy we must be able to fly lower, and to fly lower we must destroy the Father's Fist." Aegon mentally arranged his battle orders into a list.
"One. We drop rocks from high altitude to destroy the Father's Fist. Two. We drop our wildfire from a lower altitude, on the outer walls and among their troops. Three. We engage their troops with men and dragons, rout them, and gain a foothold within the city walls." Aegon looked to his second in command. "Suggestions, Maekar?"

Daenya looked up at her two brothers, having taken a few minutes to calm herself.
"We also need to decide who does what, and when." She suggested. "At the moment we are just flying up there disorganized."
She knew they might not listen but she had already proven herself. She was a dragon, just like them.

After reviving, being told what had happened and reporting to Aegon as was his duty, Rhaegar was heartbroken at the loss of Vermax, whom he had regarded as his one true friend. After wiping away tears for his friend, he went across to Daenaerys Velaryon.
"I am told you saved me and did what you could to save Vermax." the seventeen year old former prince said in a low voice. "For that I am truly grateful."

Maekar gazed at the Hightower, trying to discern the damage Aemon and his stones had done. It did not look to be much, however stones they had in vast supply, and sustained runs by dragons over the Tower, chipping away might eventually do some damage to the massive weapon atop it. "Prince Aemon has the right idea with his stones. Accuracy will be bad from so high, but we do not have to worry about running out of stones such as these; each pass won't do much damage, but sustained bombardment for a full day ought to at least dent their defenses. He looked at the Gatehouse, which was still burning intensely, to see how affected the gates themselves were, and whether the enemy host was actually trapped outside the city, or if it would be possible for them to retreat safely through the burning structure, back into Oldtown. "To tell it true, I think I got lucky with that bomb; I doubt I could place another so perfectly without flying lower, so you are right that the Fist must be our first priority. We do not have invite time, however, our supplies will begin to run out in less than a fortnight, despite rationing." "Sustained runs over the Hightower, high altitude bombardment with small stones. Keep that up for a few hours at least, and if we haven't done enough damage we'll change tactics," he said. "That would be my recommendation, at least, your grace." Maekar looked over at Daenya as she approached. He examined her expression, and smiled at her, meeting your gaze. "You were quite brave, little sister, to fly to the aid of one whom our House loves little."

Daenya managed a thankful smile, though she still was not quite over the horror that had happened in the air.
"I could not let Daenerys go by herself... and Vermax looked in so much pain..." She squeezed her eyes shut to stop the tears. "It was still for nothing."

"It was not for nothing. We know the range and use of that weapon atop the Hightower now, and how to avoid it in our assult. And you forget, Rhaegar lives. Daenerys would not have been able to save him, if she were alone in the sky. I have never liked the lad, and his father was a fool, but he is yet of our blood and you did the right thing by helping him," Maekar replied. He maintained a steely expression at the mention of Vermax, but at the mention of the dead dragon's name, his eyes turned toward the dragonfield, where Cyrax lay, and remained there while he spoke.

Daenya nodded, knowing that he was right. She still felt terrible but her mood was improving and she knew that she had done good to get out of danger. It wouldn't have done for two dragons to die.
"I know now that Vandaras won't shy," She said, looking over to the beast, its eyes thin slits that focused on Vermax's lifeless body. "Those... things... the explosions, how do we fight that?" She looked towards the city, her expression becoming more angry. "They must be desperate."

"Targaryens have been dealing Fire and Blood to their enemies for far longer than the Faith has, despite their contraptions and weapons. They will soon find that it is not so easy to defeat a dragon at its own game," he replied ominousy, looking at the green flames that still danced atop the gatehouse.

After seeing Deanya and daenerys land, Rhaena immediately flew over on Tyraxes and joined in the conversation, hearing the assessment by Maekar.
"We need to play to our strengths, and we need to accept we might not all make it back alive," she commented, "our strength is in the dragons and this war isn't going to be won by waiting and throwing stones at our enemies. We should get all or most of the dragons in the air, if you want to use your wild fire, then as you say you need to get older. Have the majority of the other dragons try and draw fire away from those carrying the wildfire. Would that we still had the element of surprise on that front." She knew the suggestion wouldn't be popular.

Daenya nodded to Maekar, then turned when Rhaena approached.
"In the end it is our brother who must decide," She answered, eyes cast to Aegon, who had been quiet for the last few minutes. "We await your command."

"Even a rock barrage is not without risks. A dragon that grows tired or a rider that grows careless may dip too low and expose themselves to the weapon. Nor shall we be able to see if we have destroyed it without moving into its firing range. Expend too much effort with the rocks and our dragons may grow tired. Break off at nightfall and they may have it repaired before the morning." Aegon thought it through. Then after a moment, he gave his battle orders.

He looked at Trajan, and gestured toward the dragon field with his head. "Princess, it appears you are with me. I am sure you have no need of my protection," he said to Rhaena, with a tender smile, "but regardless I will see that no harm comes to you." "We will take the first pass, your grace," he said, turning his attention back to Aegon. After a few runs, perhaps ten or twenty, I'll dip quickly into their range to test if we've damaged the mechanism sufficiently."

"I should rather you see the battle goes in our favour than see to my safety, that is far more important" she said, in response to him, but smiled slightly, knowing he meant well, "but, I thank you, Ser, and I you."
When he looked to Aegon she couldn't help but interrupt,
"Do you not think I would be a better candidate for testing it on Tyraxes?" she asked them both, looking between them.
