A few days later, Mithrax and Daenerys landed in the main courtyard of the castle. There was a notable gash on the dragon's chest that hadn't fully healed yet.

Dany could see her mother striding purposefully across the courtyard towards her, waving and smiling. "Oh, my dear! I am so pleased you are home. I have been so worried."

"Mother," Dany greeted her once she'd hopped off of Mith's saddle. "Worried? Why? Pirates are no match for a dragon, let alone four," she said as she reached Lady Myrcella.

"Even dragons can be shot down, as your kin learned in Oldtown," Myrcella answered. She embraced Dany in a fierce hug nonetheless. "I would be a terrible mother if I did not worry about you. "so, pirates, then. What happened?"

"We did run into some trouble.. but found Baelon and the ships, as well as Trajan. The two of them flew back to Dragonstone with the queen and the ships are returning with the tide," she said after she'd pulled back from the hug. "Has anything happened here while I was gone?" she asked, and looked round, having failed to notice Caligo in the air. He clearly was not here, either. "Where is Janos?"

"He has gone to Dragonstone to speak with King Aegon. He is of better use there, I suspect. Driftmark answers to me, in your absence, and your uncle was formerly Hand of the King. He will be able to advise Aegon on matters of state. But not much has happened, truly. We heard that the woman Vira was cleared of murdering King Maekar, but, since I never met her, I have no opinion of he matter," Myrcella replied.

"Has he now," Dany replied, starting to relieve herself of the armor she'd been wearing for the past two or three days. "Queen Rhaena said that Maekar played a hand in the king's murder. If that much is true, it is no surprise he would clear her," she said, dropping the heavy mail on the ground right there.

Myrcella nodded. "Yes. I can see that. We heard the rumours here too. They are most troubling, yet King Maekar cannot be quite as bad as all that. He sent your brother home, and there is a letter for you, from Kings Landing."

Daenerys did a double take at her mother in disbelief that she had not began with this piece of information, which to her seemed more important than the peasant girl being cleared of murder. "He sent him home? Which one?" she inquired.

"To Driftmark, of course. It was a gesture of good faith, I am sure, so I wonder if Maekar still hopes to win your loyalty. I am pleased that Monty is safe, for now, He is training in the yard with your husband."

"Perhaps," Dany said, not entirely sure what to make of this. She smiled a little at the good news, however. "Did either you or Edmyn open the letter?" she asked.

"Of course not. I knew you would be back soon enough, and Edmyn is not the sort of man to read his wife's correspondence. He is most well mannered, my love. I am pleased by your choice," Myrcella confided.

"That he is," replied Dany, her smile growing a little bigger. "Quite like the noble knights from the stories, is he not? I better see to him and Monty then, and get that letter," she added, and started towards the training yard, stopping after a few steps to look back and see if her mother was going to join her or not. "Are you staying here?"

"I ought go back inside the castle," Myrcella answered. "Unless you have particular need of my counsel. But you hardly need me to speak to your husband and brother." She smiled.

"I shall see you later at the dinner, then," she said, and made her way to the training yard.

Baelon finally arrived at Driftmark. He landed in the courtyard, and ordered a servant to inform Daenerys of his arrival.

Dany arrived swiftly, having heard of a single dragonrider approaching and having assumed it would be Baelon. "Are we all set?" she asked, in a rather good mood after having dinner with her family.

"I suppose so." He told her, pacing back and forth next to Seaskimmer. "But we'll be treating not on the behalf of King Aegon, but rather his successor, Rhaena, First of Her Name."

"What?" was Dany's response as she stopped mid-step and all colour slowly drained from her face. "What happened?!"

He kept pacing while he answered, gesturing rather exuberantly with his hands. "I don't know exactly. I didn't see it. But Aegon's dead, at Rhaena's hand. Malcolm didn't much like that, so we killed him too. Seems Brandon didn't much like it either, because when I got my ass off that island, Trajan was trying to do the same to him over my head."

Daenerys was silent for a long time, unsure whether to believe her ears or not. Then, she crossed over to him and reached out to touch his arm and stop his pacing. She found she cared very little for nearly everyone he had mentioned and perhaps to her surprise, she had no pity for this family set on destroying itself. Aegon, however, would have made a good king; one that this realm had so desperately needed after the last monster that sat atop the Iron Throne.
"Rhaena killed Aegon?" she asked, looking to Baelon as her voice broke off. Her eyes were wet, but she had promised herself not to cry for the dead anymore and so she was not going to.

Baelon looked up, surprised to hear what actually sounded like emotion in her voice. He redirected his pacing to approach her, and placed a hand on her shoulder.
"This is what our family does, dear. It's worse than it was last time. And it'll likely only get worse from here. It's Maegor's fault. Treated everyone like shit for three years, now it's all we know. Just keep killing each other until there's not enough of us left to fight over it. Doesn't sound so terrible to want to run off and be a pirate lord now, does it?"

She laughed at his joke, although her smile quickly left her features and was replaced with something between confusion and sadness. She broke off from Baelon and touched a hand to her forehead in a gesture that implied she was feeling light-headed, which she was. "Aegon.. but then.. no," she began, realized she was rambling, and shut up. When she turned back to Baelon, it was with an air of confidence, as if she knew what they needed to do next. "Do you trust me, cousin?" she asked.

He smiled. "I think I just spelled out exactly why we shouldn't be trusting our cousins. But yes, I think I do."
