Dany stood and greeted her husband by kissing his cheek. "No. He could still be back east for all we know," she replied. "I doubt your father would receive the news faster than us here. It might take him another day to get the raven. Perhaps you ought to write to him yourself." She paused, and gave him a look of concern. "Did you see the one he wrote to me directly?" she asked.

"I did." Edmyn looked very troubled. "I am not best pleased, I admit. I don't want to go to war again, but we will have little choice. My duty is to support Aegon, Dany. We were battle companions, once."

"Of course. Aegon is the rightful king," Daenerys replied calmly, as if that much was obvious. "But where is he?" she asked, and looked away. The point of their 'political' trip to East had never really reached her.

"I wish I knew. Did he not go to Volantis or some such? I have not heard that he has come home again yet. I hope news reaches him in the Free Cities. We need our king." He touched her cheek. "I am thankful we will not be divided in this matter."

"I am not sure. If we do not hear from them soon, I might go to Dragonstone to see if there is a dragonrider there who could go find them," she said, smiling at his touch. "Although the lack of information about their location might prove it a near impossible task."

"Unfortunately that's true," Edmyn agreed. "We can only wait and hope, my love. but if you do go, you can be sure Driftmark will be safe with me."

/////////////
The same day as leaving Dragonstone, Queen Rhaena and her small band of most likely less than merry women arrived on Driftmark, doing a preliminary fly over, before deciding it safe to descend and land.
Rhaena landed in the Courtyard of the keep, it seemed to be the best place for it and announced herself as Queen Rhaena, wife of King Aegon, second of his name and all the rest, and that she came to see the lady of the keep.

After being notified by a guard that there were dragons circling the castle, Daenerys of course rushed to the nearest wall to get a better look. Immensely relieved after recognising Tyraxes, a beast Rhaena had named after the Valyrian goddess of lust and fertility, the Lady of Driftmark made her way to the main courtyard, where she assumed they would land. She got there shortly after her landing, hesitant to approach them at first. Then, with a slowly spreading grin, she hurried over.
"Rhaena!" she called once she'd reached her earshot, unaware that she was now her queen.
She had been holding court until just a few hours ago and was still in her sea-green dress, a golden wreath resting atop her braided hair.

Rhaena looked over as soon as she heard her name called and saw her oldest friend, she grinned in return and immediately undid the chains on her harness, and jumping off, walking over to Daenerys and immediately hugging her.
"It has been so long, Dany" She said, when she pulled back.

Caraxes landed just after Tyraxes in the courtyard, both dragon and rider looking around with interest. When Rhaena dismounted, Elseyris followed, clambering from the saddle and walking over to where Rhaena and Danaerys stood, keeping a respectful distance.

"I am so glad to see you!" she said, momentarily forgetting about Maekar and King's Landing. "When did you come back from the east?"

"Not long ago," she said, not forgetting about it, but wanting to for a time, "we never made it to asshai, so you and I can still explore there together," the new queen sounded excited by the idea, and smiled genuinely, putting her hands on dany's shoulders.
"Though not for some time," she went on, turning more serious, "We came back when we received word treachery in King's Landing. Perhaps we could all talk inside? I trust you know Lady Elseyris... and the other rider is Yana snow, she brought us news that we had to return."

Dany returned her smile and looked to the other two, extending the smile to them both, even though she had never heard of the latter. "Of course," she said, her smile faltering at the mention of treason. She took Rhaena's arm and started leading them towards the castle entrance. "Is Prince.. King Aegon well?" she inquired.

"I left him in very good spirits, considering" Rhaena said, " It was our wedding yesterday,"

Elseyris bowed to Lady Velaryon, then followed on quietly behind her and Rhaena.

Dany stopped abruptly to study the new queen with wide eyes. "Then I suppose congratulations are in order," she said, even though she herself had never been too fond of this Valyrian custom of marriage between siblings. Neither could she recall particular fondness between Aegon and Rhaena, but figured this was not the time or place to ask questions. "Your Grace," she added as an afterthought, smirking.

Rhaena laughed, "That is really how you should always have been addressing me, being a princess and all," she said, raising her chin and looking sideways at Dany before grinning again and rejoining their arms, "I will have enough people cowing to me soon enough, imagine, I may be queen, but you being my friend comes before you being my subject."

"That is definitely how I have always been addressing you," Daenerys replied after a small laugh as they arrived in the castle's Great Hall. "But I am glad you feel that way," she added, and looked at her attire for the first time, detaching herself from the queen in order to turn to a servant and have him fetch them some wine. Noticing Elseyris' armour as well, she raised an inquiring eyebrow. "Were you expecting trouble on the way?" she asked, taking a seat behind the table and inviting them all to join her.

"Better to wear armour and not need it, than not wear it and need it," Rhaena pointed out, "Driftmark is close to King's Landing, I am surprised we did not see any of the traitor dragonriders Maekar no doubt has," she said and then frowned, "Did you hear about him challenging my mother... I left before news arrived as to the outcome... has it reached here yet?"

"I have grown accustomed to expecting trouble, My Lady," Elseyris replied, with a wry smile. "But it is as Her Highness says, best to be prepared."

She had not exactly been talking to Elseyris, but nodded at her reply nevertheless before turning back to Rhaena.
"Janos flew here after your father relieved him of his duties as the Hand," she explained, "Maekar would probably know better than to risk his dragons coming here." She shook her head, looking concerned at these news. "Has he really? I had no idea.."

"News of it came in the middle of our wedding feast, but the rider did not know the outcome," Rhaena said shaking her head slightly, looking round at elseyris who looked to be smiling after she just mentioned her mothers potential death and narrowing her eyes slightly before looking back round to Daenerys.
"I would not trust Maekar to know anything better, he has maid a claimles ridiculous bid for the crown, he is clearly not of sound mind." She knew Dany was aware of her long history with Maekar.
"It is good Lord Janos is here though, I should like to talk him also."

"That he has," she agreed absent-mindedly, thinking about her brothers. There was a pause whilst the servant brought over goblets and poured them all wine. Dany raised her eyes at the mention of Janos, slightly curious. "Of course. What about, may I ask?"

"Well, he is another dragon rider," Rhaena said, knowing they needed as many as they could get, "And as he is here, I assume he is loyal to us?"

Catching a strange look from Rhaena confused Elseyris, but then she realised she must have spoken out of turn again. She kept silent, inwardly cursing herself for being gauche.
