The largest island of Blackwater Bay and home to House Velaryon. Their castle is called High Tide and it sits atop a mountain, overlooking a natural port and trading center, Spicetown. The island also has a second town - Hull, and various villages.

Daenerys arrived aboard Dauntless, her brand new war galley, having spent the last two years at Braavos. She disembarked the ship and made her way through town on foot, accompanied by her young and handsome first mate Gerion, who eventually strode off to a tavern. After climbing up the stone steps in the mountainside on her own, Dany reached the castle and went straight to the great hall in hopes of finding some of her family there. "Mother! Jace!" she called, assuming that her father would still be off at war. She had grown a lot taller during those years and there was a certain confident flow in her movements now; she had developed the easy gait of a water dancer. Her thin blade was fastened at her hip and she was still clad in her travel clothes. The sun exposure at sea had done its job, leaving Dany's face a few shades darker than usual.
All the while, Mith was flying in circles over Driftmark, getting hungry and dreaming of sheep.

A tall golden-haired lady was in the great hall. She was very beautiful, her green eyes matching her dress. She greeted Dany with a smile. "Daughter. Come sit with me. Tell me about your travels. Braavos, was it? Though would you not like to change? Those are no fit clothes for a lady."

Dany made her way over with a bright smile on her face and hugged the Lady Myrcella. "I just got off my ship, mother; I was in a hurry to see you," she said, and studied her while taking the offered seat. "You have not aged a day, lady mother. Thank you for sending me the sword for my nameday, it is lovely."

"Well, I am not particularly keen on women carrying swords, but if you are determined to be a warrior, you must have the best steel to protect yourself," said Lady Myrcella. "I would die of shame if my daughter was not adequately protected. I want you to keep yourself alive, after all. You are my firstborn."

"Oh, I am no warrior, mother. Just a dancer," Daenerys replied with just the hint of a smile. "What I do with my sword has nothing to do with what you might oversee in a practice yard or at war, trust me. I will show you some day. And tell you all about Braavos. But now.. where are father, Jace and Monty?" she asked, looking around as if expecting them to join them any moment. "Is father at King's Landing?"

"Yes. Of course he is. I sometimes think your father loves the capital more than he loves Driftmark," Myrcella replied. "But it makes no matter. I enjoy ruling the island on his behalf. Not every wife can say that, after all. Your brothers, I believe, have gone to the market in Spicetown. I can't keep my boys cooped up here all day long, after all. They are almost men grown."

"I am sure it is not so, you know how much father loves the sea and this place," Dany reasoned, "he has duties to the crown, is all.." She smiled at the remark about ruling. Her mother was still a Lannister through and through. "Ah, I must have missed them. What of news on the war front?" she asked slightly cautiously.

"Oldtown still holds out. There is not very much news, otherwise," Myrcella sighed. "The fighting is concentrated in the south, mostly. Everywhere else has been subdued by your kin. But the Faith Militant will not yield easily."

"I see. You know, mother, in Braavos they have all sorts of religions existing side by side without quarreling," Dany said. "Oh, what of our cousins at Casterly Rock? Last I heard they were still under siege.. is that done now?"

"Yes, it's over. The Prince of Dragonstone led the fighting there, I'm told. I'm thankful our lands were saved."
Myrcella poured wine.
"How is it that the Braavosi have so many gods without fighting over them? Even before the dragons came the Andals and First Men fought over their gods, and the First Men fought the Children of the Forest."

"I must remember to thank the Prince of Dragonstone when I get to King's Landing, then," Daenerys replied, smiling. Even though not as naive and idealistic as she had been a couple years back, Dany still held gallantry and brave deeds in high regard.
At her mother's question, she shrugged. "They are smarter."

"Perhaps they may be. Yet it is a curious thing. I do not believe King Maegor will be so easily convinced, nor the Faith Militant. I do not believe such fanaticism is easy to wipe out, my dear. Best say nothing of the Braavosi gods to the king."

"Do not worry, mother. I am not exactly a close friend or relative of the king; I have never even talked to the man. And if I ever do, I doubt it would be anything other than exchanging courtesies," she replied. "It seems that I need to travel to King's Landing for the second time, then. I should thank father for the ship, he should not have. Perhaps I will go on the morrow."

"So soon? You never want to spend time with us," Myrcella sighed. "But it is a fine ship indeed. But you know your father likes to give you the best of everything."

"Or I could go later this week," Dany offered somewhat apologetically. "Of course I love your company. I just want to let father know I am back. It only takes me a day to travel between King's Landing and home on Mith, you won't even know I am gone."

"Well and good, then. The future lady of Driftmark must know her people. But I quite understand wishing to see your father. His duties keep him busy in the capital. I have not seen him since before you went away," Myrcella confided. "But the arrangement works for us both, so I am well content."

"Have you not??" Dany asked, surprised. "Surely he should make time to visit his wife from time to time. I will tell him as much. Does it not get lonely here, then?"

"Not really. I have my women, and your brothers. Your father and I are not in love, my dear. So I do not mind his absences. He makes sure we are well provided for, of course. That is what matters the most. And I can go to Spicetown and Hull. This is not some piddling island like Estermont, with nothing to do."

Daenerys laughed softly, although she would have still expected her lord father to visit his wife from time to time. "That much is true. Perhaps we could go down to Spicetown later, find Jace and Monty? After I slip into something more comfortable and have supper? It is such a nice sunny evening, and the wind is not too strong either. For Driftmark, anyway."

"Yes, I would like that," Myrcella agreed. "Though I shall certainly not be entering any taverns if that is where your brothers have gone. I would not be at all surprised. I will enjoy the walk, anyway. But supper first, of course."

"Then that's what we shall do," said Dany happily and stood. "I shall return briefly and tell you all about Braavos while we eat." With that, she left for her quarters to change.

////////////////
Dany arrived at the island on her "new" flagship and lead her guests to the Great Hall of High Tide, having left Mith in one of the castle's gardens that had served as a nest to him in the past. She had already instructed the servants to set up rooms for the Arryn heir, as well as Taena and Victory, and invite her lady mother to meet them.
"It is not as grand as the halls back at King's Landing, but I find it far more homely," she told them as they walked towards the high table, her arm linked with Ser Edmyn's. "There is more light and less shady corners, do you not find?"

"Oh, yes. It's very pleasant here," Ser Edmyn observed. "You are blessed, my lady. Driftmark is really quite charming." He spoke with warmth in his voice, his admiration for Dany showing through.
Taena followed with Victory, the young dragon curiously eyeing up the people, her mistress putting a hand on the jewelled collar she wore. Victory was getting bigger already, and it was obvious that her days of following Taena around like a scaled and winged puppy were almost over. In a few months she'd probably struggle to get through the door.

Daenerys smiled at Edmyn and saw Victory from the corner of her eye, having assumed that Taena would have left her behind - Dany herself had never brought Mith indoors, with the exception of her own rooms until he was still the size of a dog. "Oh," she said, turning to her friend. "perhaps you ought to take Victory to your chambers? Or show her the yard - they seemed to get along well with Mith on the way."
