"For whom?" The Grand Maester looked hard at Baelor. "If this thing is what the legends claim, it is a most dangerous and powerful object. Did the king send you to me?"

"I came of my own volition," Baelor says, "Though I intend to serve the king with what I learn. Should Dragonbinder exist, it is the only thing that could bring our family to its knees. I would not see that happen."

"Indeed. I would strongly advise you to speak with the King and Queen regarding this venture, but no others. It would be irresponsible of me to provide the information without their consent, wouldn't it? Though I do have maps regarding the location of Valyria and books which may tell you about the customs of the time."

"Then I shall seek them out and request their permission. Thank you for your time, Grand Maester Benedict." With that, Baelor rose and made his way out of the room to seek out King Maegor or Queen Rhaella.

Daenya lead Orys into the maester's chambers. "Here you go; I'm sure your arms will be fine!"

Orys laughs as he is led in. "I would hope. Arms are important to someone like myself."

"No doubt! I shall leave you here then, the maester will take care of you," Daenya said. "No doubt I will see you around the keep."

Orys nodded his goodbye. "Hopefully, my lady, unless you've left me mortally wounded." He laughed. "Goodbye, my lady." He leaned against the wall with his good arm and waited until the maester came to see him."

Daenya smiled, waved and left.

Grand Maester Benedict arrived from the next room. He beamed at the young man. "Greetings. How can I help you?"

Orys grinned back. "Well, I made the grave mistake of sparring with young princess Daenya. To cut a long tale short: She thrashed me, and now I'm hear to get checked over, particularly my shield arm, which I fear is broken."

"I see. I will call my assistants and we shall get you patched up. Have a seat."
He beamed at Orys. "The young princess will be a great warrior one day. Sparring with her was a great honour for you."

Orys took a seat in the nearest chair and laughed. "I agree, she's very talented. Though, I think I'd have preferred that the honor had come with a little less pain." He stretched his arm and winced in pain.

"Indeed."
The Grand Maester called to his assistants to bring splints and bandages.
"Best not let the king find out you lost to his daughter," he suggested. "That won't go down so well."

Orys nodded. Best not to appear weak in the eyes of one's king. "I'll try to keep the subject from coming up." Orys moved his arm again, and winced again. 'Stupid,' he though, 'You've got to stop doing that.'
He asked the Grand Maester, "How long until I'm good for war?"

"About six weeks. Steer clear of physical activity as much as you can and you'll need to make sure the arm is kept as straight as possible."
While they were talking, the Grand Maester signalled to one of his juniors and Orys felt a sharp pain as the broken edges of bone were pushed together.

Orys gasped. "Seven hells!" Orys had felt a lot of pain in his life time, but nothing quite compared to having his bones shoved back into place.

The maesters were relentless. The Grand Maester gave the order while his juniors splinted and bound the arm. "I'll give you a draught to help with the pain. Take it thrice daily until there is no more pain."

Orys bit his lip and nodded. "Yes, yes, I'll drink the damned draught."

The Grand Maester nodded, giving instructions to one of his men, who busied himself with some vials in the corner. Another brought a glass to the table.
"I will give you a stronger draught this first time. You may wish to lie down. Do you have somewhere to stay in the castle?"

I shake my head. "Not in the castle proper. I stay in the guard's barracks. A bastard of no rank isn't typically provided private quarters."

"Indeed. Well, you had best rest in my quarters for a while then, because the stronger draught will make you sleepy, and then I can check on you for a time. You are...Prince Gaemon's son, are you not? The king's cousin. Is not the Lady Taena your sister?"
Meanwhile, one of the younger masters was pouring a thick draught of purplish liquid into the glass. It looked like wine mixed with milk of the poppy.

Orys yawns, but stays a wake. He softly explains. "Yes, I'm Gaemon's bastard, but I was never favored like my sister. Taena is a lady-in-waiting for one of the princesses. I was brought up to learn in the yard, so I've never been particularly close to my trueborn kin."

"Understandable. If you wish, I can send word to your sister that you are here. Is there anyone else who should be informed of your circumstances. You won't be able to do guard duty for a while. I am sorry for it, but it cannot be helped." The Grand Maester sounded particularly regretful. "I do not wish you to get into trouble for failing to report somewhere."

Orys waved his hand. "No, Taena will be fine. I'd hate to trouble you for much more."
